# The DA calls for stability and security for South Africans in Mozambique
# AfriForum opposes the move to block the publication of the matric results
# And cricket: A good Test start for Corbin Bosch in the first match against Pakistan
# The DA has called for political stability and security for South Africans in Mozambique. National spokesperson, Willie Aucamp, has expressed concern over escalating violence and human rights violations. He urges the Mozambican government to ensure safety and protect human rights. Aucamp says the DA has requested urgent meetings with International Relations minister, Ronald Lamola, to ensure the safe return of South African nationals:
# AfriForum is prepared to oppose the Information Regulator’s urgent court bid to block the publication of the 2024 matric results. Head of cultural affairs Alana Bailey emphasises that publishing exam numbers without names balances privacy and public interest. Citing a 2022 court ruling, she says AfriForum deems the regulator’s enforcement invalid and has requested to join its case against the Department of Basic Education:
# Slovakia has confirmed its readiness to host peace talks on Ukraine, with Russian president Vladimir Putin previously calling it acceptable for the country to become a platform for dialogue. Putin announced earlier that Slovakia had offered to be a platform for possible peace talks and that Russia was not against it, praising Bratislava’s neutral position. Slovakia says any talks must take place with the participation of all parties, and therefore also of Russia, unlike a previous summit in held in Switzerland in June.
# Cricket: Pakistan will resume its second innings on 88 for three, a deficit of just two runs, after debutant Corbin Bosch continued his heroics for the home team with the bat on the second day of the first Test in Centurion. The 30-year-old son of former South African cricketer Tertius Bosch scored an unbeaten 81 and shared a 41-run ninth-wicket partnership with Kagiso Rabada after taking four wickets in Pakistan’s first innings. Aiden Markram earlier shrugged off his bad form of late to contribute a brilliant 89.
# And, a 20-year-old American pizza delivery woman was charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a pregnant woman who only tipped her the equivalent of 40-rand. Brianna Alvelo delivered the pizza to a hotel in Kissimmee, Florida, and apparently wasn’t happy with the small tip. She and a man allegedly returned later and attacked the other woman, who sustained 14 stab wounds. The armed man involved hasn’t been identified. Alvelo also faces charges of home invasion with a firearm, kidnapping and aggravated assault.
