In this bulletin:
# Fikile Mbalula says SACP members in government won’t be removed
# The Airports Company maintains it timeously pays its invoices
# And the DA calls for proactive solutions to combat farm attacks in the Free State
# ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula says they will not remove SACP members who are serving as ministers and others working in government from their positions, because it would not be politically correct. The SACP announced last week that they would be contesting the upcoming 2026 local government elections without the ANC. The SACP has been vocal about its concerns and dissatisfaction with the government of national unity. Mbalula has reiterated that the ANC will assess the implications of the SACP’s decision:
# Airports Company South Africa says the mere existence of a claim from a service provider does not translate to a contingent liability or even grounds for liquidation. This as court documents lodged last week, indicate that a service provider has applied for ACSA’s liquidation, for failing to pay the contracted service provider monies owed for services rendered. The company is also accused of publishing fake financial reports. ACSA says it timeously pays all legitimate and undisputed invoices that are received and where goods and services have been rendered.
# The DA is calling for proactive solutions to tackle the rising number of farm attacks in the Free State. The party condemned the brutal farm attack on a family in Rouxville over the weekend and offered condolences to the victim’s family. The DA’s Werner Pretorius warns that an under-resourced South African Police Service is unable to effectively prevent such attacks:
# Police have arrested 26-year-old Luigi Mangione in connection with the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York last week. He was detained on firearms charges in Altoona, Pennsylvania after he was spotted eating at a McDonald’s yesterday. Police say Mangione is expected to be charged with homicide imminently. Pennsylvania Governor, Josh Shapiro, says some attention in this case, especially online, has been deeply disturbing, as some have looked to celebrate instead of condemning this killer:
# Soccer: Referees’ body the Professional Game Match Officials Limited has fired Premier League official David Coote. He was suspended last month after a video allegedly showing him making derogatory comments about Liverpool and former manager Jurgen Klopp circulated on social media. A second video showed Coote allegedly snorting a white powder, purportedly during the European Championship earlier this year. The PGMOL says a thorough investigation concluded Coote was in serious breach of the provisions of his employment contract, with his position deemed untenable.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-81-cents and the euro at 18-rand-79-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-69-cents and Bitcoin trades at 96-thousand-382-dollars-6-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-667-dollars-79-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 71-dollars-84-cents a barrel.
