# The Jacob Zuma Foundation says it will consult political structures and legal advisors over former president Jacob Zuma’s expulsion from the ANC. Zuma was expelled in July for violating section 25 of the ANC constitution by supporting the MK Party while still a member of the ANC. Zuma’s spokesperson, Mzwanele Manyi told Newzroom Afrika Zuma was not given a fair chance to plead his case:
# Public Works and Infrastructure minister Dean MacPherson has ruled out negotiations with construction mafias amidst rising extortion cases nationwide. Speaking at the National Construction Summit in Durban, on Crime Free Construction Sites, MacPherson stressed the urgent need for a robust plan to combat crime and lawlessness in the sector. He called for decisive action to protect construction sites and ensure the industry’s integrity and growth:
# The Department of Agriculture will inspect all five registered terbufos manufacturers to ensure compliance and distinguish locally produced chemicals from illegal imports. This follows at least 22 deaths linked to chemical poisoning from food. Agriculture minister John Steenhuisen suspects cross-border imports, pending lab results. Nationwide cleanup campaigns are underway, with biosecurity prioritised to prevent harmful products’ entry into South Africa. The minister says the efforts aim to address gaps in supply chain security and ensure public safety.
# A man has died when a tree fell on his car, and 10 people in North Wales, including five children, have been rescued from a home after a landslide. Storm Bert continues to batter the UK with snow, rain and strong winds causing chaos and disruption. The Met Office says rain is expected to become particularly heavy and persistent during the day. Accumulations of 50 to 75 millimetres are expected to fall across the UK, with some places expecting as much as 100 to 150 millimetres.
# And, rugby: The Springboks finished 2024 with a dominant win of 45-12 over Wales at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. It was the Welsh team’s 12th consecutive loss. The Springboks scored their first try within the first six minutes of the game when Man of the Match Franco Mostert went over. The other tries came from Eben Etzebeth, Kurt-Lee Arendse, Elrigh Louw, Aphelele Fassi, Gerhard Steenekamp and Jordan Hendrikse, who also succeeded with five conversions. Wales’ 12 points came from two tries by Rio Dyer and James Botham, and a conversion by Ben Thomas.
