# Police welcome the interim court order on disused mining shafts in the Stilfontein area
# The ATM is pleased about the shut down of all spaza shops implicated in deaths of children
# And, rugby: South Africa outshine England in a thrilling encounter at Twickenham
# Police have welcomed an interim court order issued by the Gauteng High Court yesterday for the protection of illegal miners still underground at the disused Stilfontein mines near Klerksdorp in North West. The order provides the miners the opportunity to exit voluntarily and prohibits the blocking of the shafts. Police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe says SAPS static deployment operations continue at all abandoned and disused mining shafts in the area. A call has once again been made to all illegal miners to resurface. She says the order does not in anyway prevent SAPS from performing its constitutional mandate:
# The ATM has welcomed government’s decision to close all businesses implicated in the death of children due to suspected foodborne diseases. The ATM’s spokesperson, Zama Ntshona says this is a necessary step toward ensuring a safe food environment for all South Africans. He says the crisis is not merely a public health issue but a symptom of a systemic failure to prioritise the well-being of citizens:
# The GOOD party in the Western Cape is calling for a public debate on the latest general valuation roll for the upcoming financial years from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2029 in Stellenbosch Municipality. The GOOD party’s Marius van Stade says the party is advocating for a reconsideration of the sharp increases in the valuation of residential properties, which are believed to place an undue burden on homeowners and residents:
# Rugby: The Springboks condemned England to their fifth consecutive defeat after they overcame the hosts 29-20 at Twickenham yesterday evening. The Boks scored four tries via scrumhalf Grant Williams, winger Cheslin Kolbe, who went over twice, and flanker Pieter-Steph du Toit. The Boks were leading 19-17 at half-time. The Red Roses had led 20-19 with the final quarter approaching, but the Boks showed their championship mentality to close the game out in style. Kolbe was crowned Man of the Match.
# And, Argentinian police arrested a man in Buenos Aires who possessed a large number of vintage Nazi weapons decorated with Third Reich symbols from Adolf Hitler’s infamous regime. Police seized over 60 firearms from the man’s home, including 43 rifles emblazoned with Nazi eagle markings, 15 pistols, five bayonets and a machine gun, according to a report from Argentina’s federal police. Nazi flags, military uniforms, hats, helmets and a bust of Hitler were also confiscated by authorities.
