# The Border Management Authority and SARS clear the cargo backlog as the Lebombo Port reopens
# Police seize over two-million-rands in counterfeit goods in Fordsburg
# And, rugby: The Wallabies snatch a victory from England in a thrilling clash
# The Border Management Authority and the South African Revenue Service have resumed cargo operations at the Lebombo border, clearing backlogged shipments after Mozambique restored processing systems at Ressano Garcia. BMA spokesperson Mmemme Mogotsi says BMA commissioner Michael Masiapato confirmed that the port is fully operational for cargo movement. Travelers are advised to stay informed on updates as BMA and SARS ensure secure, efficient border processing:
Meanwhile, the Cross Border Association chairperson, Joseph Ntemane, has reported severe financial losses in the taxi industry due to the recent Mozambique border closure and violence. He noted a heavy toll on drivers with vehicles bought on credit, as they couldn’t earn income during the shutdown. While cargo operations have resumed, he urges a swift resolution in Mozambique for business stability for passengers and cargo:
# The South African Police Service seized counterfeit goods worth over two-million-rand in Fordsburg, Johannesburg leading to 24 arrests. This included 23 for Immigration Act violations and one for dealing with counterfeit items. Police spokesperson Amanda van Wyk says the operation, led by SAPS with multiple agencies, confiscated over eight-thousand items, including electronics and cellphones, in a targeted raid at a local mall:
# At least 24 people were killed and more than 40 injured in a bomb blast yesterday at a railway station in the city of Quetta in southwestern Pakistan. Quetta is the capital of the Balochistan province, which is grappling with a surge in strikes by separatist ethnic militants that has raised security concerns for projects aiming to develop the province’s untapped mineral resources. Authorities said 16 soldiers from the Pakistani defence force were among the dead. The Baloch Liberation Army, a separatist militant group, claimed responsibility for the attack.
# And, rugby: England, punted as the favourites in their encounter with the Wallabies at Twickenham last night, was severely disappointed when they went down to the visitors 42-37. A try in the dying minutes of the game by replacement back Max Jorgensen secured the match for the Aussies. In other clashes Argentina thrashed Italy 50- 18, France overcame Japan 52-12 and Portugal lost 21-17 on home ground against the USA. This evening the Boks take on Scotland in a much awaited match at Murrayfield. Kick-off is at 6 pm.
