# Taiwan’s Foreign minister, Lin Chia-lung, has accused South Africa of violating a 1997 agreement between the two countries. This comes after government has demanded that Taiwan relocate its de facto embassy from Pretoria to Johannesburg by the end of this month, at the urging of China. According to a report by Taiwan’s Central News Agency, Lin told his country’s Parliament on Monday that they have prepared contingency plans, including asking the South African office in Taiwan to relocate out of Taipei.
# The IFP has called for urgent action to help more South Africans own spaza shops to ensure compliance with safety standards and boost local business ownership. Party leader Velenkosini Hlabisa has raised concerns following a rise in food poisoning cases in Gauteng, allegedly linked to expired products sold in spaza shops. According to Hlabisa, many undocumented foreigners are running businesses without complying with regulations:
# The families of security officers, Terence Tegg and JJ Cassanga, who were killed by former Clover employees, have welcomed the sentence handed down by the Johannesburg High Court. Mohale Shokane and Vusumuzi Duumba were sentenced to life imprisonment. They were arrested in February 2022, after a group of people, in the act of vigilantism, unleashed an attack on several guards outside Clover’s facility in Olifantsfontein. Tegg’s fiancée, Michele Bebbington, says justice has been served:
# Former Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney has described former president Donald Trump as totally erratic and completely unstable. She joined vice president and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris at an event titled Country Over Party at the Royal Oak Music Theatre in Michigan yesterday. Cheney, known for her opposition to Trump, first endorsed Harris earlier this month. She says the choice in November’s election comes down to defending the Constitution:
# Tennis: Top seed Alexander Zverev is through to the second round of the Vienna Open after beating Austrian wildcard Joel Schwaerzler, 6-2, 6-2. The German, who has now equalled his best of 60 tour-level wins in a season from 2018, will face either Alex Michelsen or Marcos Giron from the US. Gold sells at two-thousand-731-dollars-75-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 74-dollars-8-cents a barrel.
