# Tshwane urges consumers to conserve water to avoid higher restriction levels
# And an armed man was arrested near a Trump rally
# GOOD Party leader Patricia de Lille says with the passing of former Finance minister and Reserve Bank governor, Tito Mboweni, South Africa has lost a great inspirational leader. He died in hospital on Saturday night after a short illness. He was 65. De Lille says under Mboweni’s leadership, the nation’s budget largely succeeded in navigating the very fine line between bare economic survival and the fiscal cliff:
Meanwhile, the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry says throughout the years and in various high-profile roles Mboweni was a man who operated with integrity and transparency. The chamber’s Alan Mukoki says Mboweni was known to have a sharp intellect and a deep understanding of matters affecting his portfolios, South Africa, and the economy:
# The City of Tshwane urges residents to make a concerted effort to reduce water usage by adhering to the level 1 water restrictions. The Metro’s spokesperson, Selby Bokaba says Tshwane is continuing to experience a week-on-week high consumption of water by residents and businesses despite the city’s numerous requests to customers to use water sparingly. He says this behaviour is putting the city’s bulk water system under severe strain and may lead to the municipality’s system running dry and eventually collapsing:
# A man illegally possessing a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and a high-capacity magazine was arrested near former US president Donald Trump’s rally in Coachella, California, on Saturday. Identified as 49-year-old, Vem Miller, he was intercepted by police at a security checkpoint, an hour before Trump was scheduled to appear on stage. He was charged with two misdemeanour weapons charges and was released on bail. The US Secret Service says the former president was not in any danger, and the incident did not impact protective operations.
# Cricket: Defending champions Australia secured their place in the Women’s T20 World Cup semifinals with a nine-run win over India in Sharjah. Australia posted 151 for eight with opener Grace Harris top-scoring with 40. In reply, India was restricted to 142 for nine in their 20 overs. Meanwhile, England are top of Group B after recording an emphatic ten-wicket victory over Scotland. England is guaranteed to qualify for the semifinals with a win over the West Indies in their final pool match on Tuesday.
