# Police Minister Senzo Mchunu told Parliament that the national policing policy will be completed by the end of next month. The policy will address key issues such as police station infrastructure and operational standards, aiming to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the South African Police Service. In his National Assembly plenary address, Mchunu says this new framework is part of a broader strategy to enhance law enforcement effectiveness and improve crime prevention across the country:
# The Freedom Front Plus says it is time for the government to act ruthlessly against extortion syndicates, especially in the construction industry. In Parliament yesterday, Police minister Senzo Mchunu said that extortionists did not only target businesses but also pensioners and Road Accident Fund recipients. The FF Plus’ Heloïse Denner says extortion mafias have cost the country’s economy about 68-billion-rand to date:
# The US has charged Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and five others for their roles in planning, supporting, and perpetrating the seven October attack in southern Israel last year. One-thousand-200 people including 40 Americans were killed in the attack and 251 people were taken hostage. More than 40-thousand people have been killed in Gaza since then in Israel’s ongoing military campaign. US Attorney General, Merrick Garland, says they are investigating every one of Hamas’ brutal murders of Americans, as an act of terrorism:
# Motorsport: Formula One’s governing body the FIA has rejected complaints from Red Bull and Ferrari about the legality of the front wings on the McLaren and Mercedes cars. The complaints claimed that the front wings of the cars were not compliant with the rules due to their flexibility. The FIA says all front wings are currently compliant with the 2024 regulations. McLaren is now just eight points behind Red Bull in the constructors’ standings.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-97-cents and the euro at 19-rand-88-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-57-cents and Bitcoin trades at 56-thousand-739-dollars-57-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-494-dollars-93-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 73-dollars-35-cents a barrel.
# And finally: The DA is mourning the passing of Gregory Krumbock, a member of Parliament and the party’s national campaign manager for the last two elections. His journey with the party and its predecessor, the Democratic Party, spanned over three decades. The DA’s Federal Council chairperson, Helen Zille, says Krumbock was a visionary strategist, a stalwart of the party, and a passionate advocate for democracy. She adds that his life was marked by a relentless pursuit of justice and equality.
