# Public Service and Administration Minister, Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi, says the government will introduce the Ethics Committee Procedure and provide training on lifestyle audit Investigations and discipline management. This is aimed at reinforcing the ethical foundations of the public service. September is Public Service Month. Buthelezi has stressed the need to address weaknesses within the governance system and encouraged collaboration across departments:
# The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development and the South African Banking Risk Information Centre will sign a memorandum of understanding today, to combat financial crimes and corruption. The MoU outlines several areas of cooperation, including mitigating financial and cybercrime risks, developing and implementing digital capabilities, and enhancing capacity-building and skills development within the sector. The department says the MOU represents a pivotal collaboration to improve the security and integrity of the South African financial system.
# Six suspects have been killed in a shootout with police at a flat in South Beach, Durban. The men were wanted in connection with several murders, the most recent being the killing of four people in Mariannhill last night. Police spokesperson, Robert Netshiunda, says the suspects are also linked to extortion cases and the drug trade:
# US authorities have seized Venezuela president Nicolas Maduro’s plane in the Dominican Republic, after determining it was allegedly purchased in violation of US sanctions. Authorities say an investigation found that people affiliated with Maduro allegedly used a Caribbean-based shell company to hide their involvement in the plane’s illegal purchase from a company based in Florida. The aircraft was then illegally exported from the US to Venezuela through the Caribbean in April last year. Venezuela has denounced the seizure, saying that it amounted to an act of piracy.
# Golf: Four-time major champion Rory McIlroy says he is aiming to cut back on his tournament schedule in the future. By the end of the year, the 35-year-old will have competed in 27 events. The former world number one has won twice on the PGA Tour this season but failed to register the elusive fifth major victory. McIlroy says he is going to try to cut his events to 18 or 20 a year going forward:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-86-cents and the euro at 19-rand-76-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-47-cents and Bitcoin trades at 59-thousand-270-dollars-78-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-494-dollars-98-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 77-dollars-22-cents a barrel.
