# Former ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule says his former personal assistant Moroadi Cholota is being treated like a terrorist. She was deported from the US last week Thursday. The State alleges Cholota was instrumental in its 255-million-rand asbestos corruption case, as she is alleged to have solicited money from business people on behalf of Magashule. She is expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court today. Magashule told eNCA that he maintains his innocence:
# Police minister Senzo Mchunu says the safety and security of citizens are of utmost importance, following another discovery of an apparent firearm training facility in Modimolle, Limpopo. A multidisciplinary team recovered several licensed rifles, a pistol, and a substantial amount of ammunition believed to have been used in training activities at the facility. # The death toll from a landslide at a vast garbage dump in Uganda’s capital Kampala has risen to 17, while 14 people have been rescued. The Kiteezi landfill is the only one serving the whole of Kampala, a city home to an estimated four million people. President Yoweri Museveni has ordered an investigation into how people have been allowed to live so close to the potentially hazardous area.
# Olympic Games: USA Gymnastics has launched an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after Jordan Chiles was stripped of the bronze medal she won in the women’s floor final in Paris. This comes after CAS ruled in favour of an appeal by Romania’s Ana Barbosu. The court said that the initial inquiry made by the USA over Chiles’ score in the final was filed after the one-minute deadline. USA Gymnastics says they have video evidence that the appeal was done 13 seconds before the deadline.
