# The NPA confirms UAE talks have resumed to extradite the Gupta brothers
# And, Olympic Games: South Africa’s sprint kings Simbine, Maswanganyi and Richardson are all in the 100-metres semi-final
# The ANC National Executive Committee is hopeful for a solid recovery plan following their Boksburg meeting conclusion. Acting spokesperson Zuko Godlimpi says the final report, including the election analysis report, will reflect post-election developments and the president’s political overview. He emphasised the importance of national dialogue on how the party should collectively address issues in South Africa:
# The NPA has confirmed the Justice Department has resumed talks with the UAE to extradite Rajesh and Atul Gupta, wanted for alleged corruption and money laundering. The brothers’ business empire spanned mining, media, and technology, with close ties to former President Jacob Zuma. NPA spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga told eNCA they hope the UAE will support South Africa’s extradition requests:
# Donald Trump has agreed to hold a debate with Kamala Harris. He had previously said he would not debate the current vice president because she was not the official candidate. However, she has now secured enough votes from Democratic delegates to become her party’s presidential nominee, though the online voting process does not end until Monday. Although nothing is official yet, the debate will reportedly be hosted by Fox News on 4 September, at a site still to be determined. The moderators of the debate will be Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum.
# Olympic Games: South Africa’s sprint kings Akani Simbine, Shawn Maswanganyi and Benjamin Richardson have all qualified for the 100-metre semi-finals. Simbine won heat six in a time of 10.03-seconds, while Maswanganyi finished third in heat three, stopping the clock in 10.06. Richardson finished fourth in heat five, but his time of 10.06 was the fastest of all the runners outside of the placings, and therefore he also moved on to the semi-finals. The semi-finals will take place tonight at 5 past 8 with the final at 10 to 10.
# And, South African National Parks has announced the start of the 2024 wildflower season at West Coast National Park from now until 30 September. SANParks says the Postberg section is open for visitors to view spectacular blooms. In addition food trucks are available as the Geelbek Restaurant is under maintenance. Conservation fees for entry are applicable and new guides and booklets will also be on sale. The special Spring Flowers Booklet can be purchase at the Postberg entry gate and is an excellent resource for identifying and learning more about the flowers in the park.
