BULLETIN 2 August 8 am
Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# Action Society rejects the Madlanga Commission as futile
# The Activists and Citizens Forum calls for Paul Mashatile to resign over his ethics violations
# And rugby: The Springbok Women are motivated for their clash against the Black Ferns
# Action Society has criticised president Cyril Ramaphosa for failing to fire Police minister Senzo Mchunu, who faces serious allegations of colluding with crime syndicates. The organisation argues Ramaphosa’s decision to launch the costly 148-million-rand Madlanga Commission instead of removing Mchunu is ineffective. Action Society’s Juanita du Preez believes this approach is unlikely to bring justice or real reform, just like the Zondo Commission:
# The Activists and Citizens Forum says Deputy President Paul Mashatile is unfit for office and should resign. This follows a ten-thousand-rand fine issued by Parliament’s Ethics Committee for failing to declare a diamond gift from businessman Louis Liebenberg, who is facing criminal charges. The forum’s spokesperson, Dennis Bloem, warns that his continued presence in office damages the trust and respect of the deputy president’s position:
# Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Sindisile Chikungwa, has officially launched 2025 Women’s Month at a trade dialogue in Sandton. The event highlights funding access and market barriers facing women in informal sectors. Speaking to SABC News, the minister also stressed collaboration with the ministry of Trade and Industry to assist women entrepreneurs amid US tariffs and encouraged opening African markets to empower women-led businesses:
# US President Donald Trump dismissed the head of the agency charged with publishing some of America’s most closely watched economic data, after a weaker-than-expected jobs report stoked further alarm about his tariff policies. Trump accused commissioner, Erika McEntarfer on social media of manipulating job figures for political reasons. The decision raised alarm about White House interference in economic data and the subsequent effect on the economy. The Bureau of Labor Statistics earlier reported just 73-thousand new jobs in July and revised estimates of job growth in May and June, with 250-thousand fewer jobs than previously thought.
# And sports news:
# Rugby: The Springbok Women want to bring their very best to supporters at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town when they take on New Zealand’s Black Ferns Fifteen in their second international friendly this afternoon. The visitors won last weekend’s clash 34-26, but the Bok Women’s captain, Babalwa Latsha, said this time they will focus on doing small things right first. She expects a match of high intensity, huge physicality, and amazing action. Tickets for the match at 5 pm are still available from Quicket at 20-rand per person.
# And soccer: Bafana Bafana will play Nigeria in a World Cup qualifier in Bloemfontein on the ninth of next month. Phase one of the ticket sales opens at the Free State Stadium today, costing 70-rand for adults and 40-rand for children. Phase two will open next Saturday when tickets will be available through Ticketpro, and phase three, starting on the 16th, will make tickets available at supermarkets and fuel stations. Bafana Bafana is currently on top of qualifying group C with 13 points, with Nigeria fourth on seven.
