# Ministers Naledi Pandor, Bheki Cele, Thandi Modise, and Thulas Nxesi won’t return to Parliament
# RISE Mzansi welcomes the resignation of Zizi Kodwa
# And Putin warns Russia could supply weapons to other countries to strike the West
# Veteran ministers Naledi Pandor, Bheki Cele, Thandi Modise and Thulas Nxesi won’t return to Parliament after the ANC lost 71 seats in last week’s election. Their names were omitted from the list of MPs the Electoral Commission will present to Chief Justice Raymond Zondo today, and will be forwarded to the secretary to Parliament. Former ministers Dina Pule and Malusi Gigaba are making a comeback after leaving under a corruption cloud. Other MPs who will return, include former DA officials Athol Trollip and Mmusi Maimane.
# RISE Mzansi has welcomed the resignation of minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Zizi Kodwa, after he was formally charged with corruption in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court yesterday. It is alleged that Kodwa received bribes from former EOH boss Jehan Mackay and in exchange, his company was awarded 400-million-rand in government contracts. RISE Mzansi’s, Tebogo Moalusi, says they hope that this sends a strong message to all corrupt politicians, that the long arm of the law is not selective:
# The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union says the management of Sibanye-Stillwater’s Kroondal Mine is to blame for workers’ decision to engage in a sit-in underground. Over 200 mineworkers staged a sit-in underground at the mine’s Kwezi Shaft in Rustenburg in the North West, over the Employee Share Ownership Scheme for Kroondal. The workers resurfaced on Tuesday evening. Amcu’s president, Joseph Mathunjwa, says this could have been avoided if the employer was sensitive to the needs of the workers:
# Russia’s president Vladimir Putin has warned that Moscow could supply arms to other countries to attack western targets. This follows the West’s delivery of long-range weapons to Ukraine. A US senator has confirmed that Kyiv has recently used American weapons to strike inside Russia. Germany also told Ukraine it was free to hit targets inside Russia with long-range German-made weapons. Putin warned that the West was wrong to assume that Moscow would never use nuclear weapons.
# Tennis: Germany’s Alexander Zverev is through to the French Open semifinals for the fourth consecutive year, after beating Australia’s Alex de Minaur, 6-4, 7-6, 6-4. He will face Norwegian Casper Ruud, who received a walkover due to Novak Djokovic’s withdrawal. In the women’s draw, 17-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva knocked out second seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, to become the youngest Grand Slam semifinalist in nearly three decades. She will face Jasmine Paolini after the Italian stunned Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-89-cents and the euro at 20-rand-88-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-19-cents and Bitcoin trades at 71-thousand-94-dollars-73-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-369-dollars-27-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 78-dollars-67-cents a barrel.
