# President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa is attracting global investment as government ramps up infrastructure development to grow the economy. Speaking at the launch of the ANC’s Asiy’ekhaya local government election campaign in eThekwini, Ramaphosa says government has turned around operations at the Port of Durban, with investors seeing progress across the country. He says increased investment will drive job creation in all sectors of the economy:

# COSATU has welcomed the tabling of the Employment Services Amendment Bill in Parliament, saying it addresses the employment of undocumented migrant workers. The Bill would allow Employment and Labour Minister Nomakhosazana Meth to set limits on the number of documented migrant workers employed in a workplace, region, sector or profession. COSATU spokesperson Matthew Parks says the limits are needed amid what he describes as extremely high unemployment, at 43.8-percent overall and more than 60-percent among young people:

#Eskom says it is maintaining 6-thousand-571 megawatts of generation capacity in reserve due to excess capacity, providing additional assurance of system adequacy. Planned maintenance remains a priority, with the planned capacity loss factor averaging 13.83-percent, up from 10.71-percent during the same period last year. Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena says the utility also achieved its emissions targets:

# City Power says it is strengthening security measures to combat theft and vandalism of electricity infrastructure. This follows the arrest of three suspects this week in two separate incidents in Lawley and West Turffontein. The utility says 148 suspects have been arrested between January and September for alleged tampering with electrical infrastructure. It recorded one-thousand-138 infrastructure-related incidents during the 2024/25 financial year, compared with one-thousand-54 during the 2025/26 financial year. City Power is urging communities to report suspicious activity and avoid confronting suspected criminals.

# And finally, sports news:

# Soccer: Bafana Bafana began their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Guinea at Orlando Stadium in Soweto. Ime Okon opened the scoring in the 30th minute, giving South Africa a 1-nil lead at half-time. Substitute Samukelo Kabini scored the winner after Guinea’s Seydouba Cisse had equalised. The victory gives coach Pitso Mosimane a winning start to his return to the team. South Africa’s next Group D encounter is against Eritrea in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday.

# And rugby: South African teams made a clean sweep in the opening round of the United Rugby Championship. The Lions edged defending champions Leinster 27-26 at Ellis Park, with Erich Cronjé scoring two of their three tries. The Sharks beat the Ospreys 41-24 in Durban, scoring five tries, including two from Luan Giliomee. The Bulls completed the clean sweep last night with a 47-13 victory over Zebre Parma in Italy, scoring seven tries. On Friday, the Stormers beat Connacht in Galway 29-15.
