Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# President Ramaphosa says South African’s are not against people from Africa
# The MK Party rejects tribalism as part of the immigration crisis
# And, Donald Trump insists Iran wants to make a deal
# President Cyril Ramaphosa has reaffirmed that South Africans are not inherently against people from other African nations. He met with the president of Mozambique, Daniel Francisco Chapo, in Pretoria yesterday, where they had extensive discussions on matters of mutual interest. This comes as Nigeria, Ghana, and Mozambique have formally complained to the government about the treatment of their citizens in the country, amid xenophobic tensions. Ramaphosa says a solution to this matter will be found:
Meanwhile, the MK Party says illegal immigration is a serious national issue affecting all South Africans, across every tribe, language group, and province. It says, therefore, it is misleading and cowardly to frame this challenge as belonging to one community or province. This comes amid protests over illegal immigration in the country. The MK Party says it’s not new for concerns to be raised about pressure brought about by illegal immigrants on jobs, housing, and basic services. It adds that tribalism neither hides nor resolves the structural challenges of illegal immigration.
# Solidarity’s Helping Hand says students are bearing the brunt of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme’s ongoing crisis, following its placement under administration. The organisation argues the problems at the scheme go beyond funding shortages and point to deeper governance failures and weak financial controls. Solidarity’s Yolandi Theron says operational breakdowns have left students facing delayed payments, accommodation challenges, and uncertainty about their studies:
# The Freedom Front Plus is calling on the City of Tshwane to set up an internal forensic unit, as the current use of private investigators is too expensive and inefficient. According to the party, the city spends about 300-thousand-rand per investigation, with around one-thousand-500 cases still unresolved, which could cost up to 450-million-rand. The FF Plus’s Peter Meijer believes an internal unit would reduce costs, build internal skills, and deliver faster results.
# US president Donald Trump says Iran wants to make a deal, insisting that a negotiated settlement is still a possibility. This comes as the US military continues its pressure campaign against Tehran, including blocking ships entering and exiting Iranian ports. The US Central Command’s naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has so far intercepted 51 ships. Speaking at the White House, Trump stated that he is willing to crash Iran’s economy because he wants to win:
# Golf: Two-time major champion Jon Rahm will be eligible to play in next year’s Ryder Cup at Ireland’s Adare Manor, after reaching an agreement with the DP World Tour. The 31-year-old Spaniard had refused to pay fines for playing LIV Golf events without official permission since he made his debut on the breakaway tour in 2024. The agreement includes Rahm settling all his outstanding fines accrued from 2024 to date, along with participation in agreed DP World Tour tournaments in the remainder of this season.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-52-cents and the euro at 19-rand-37-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-44-cents and Bitcoin trades at 81-thousand-254-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-622-dollars-30-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 106-dollars-52-cents a barrel.
