# The ANC Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula says the government failed to communicate effectively about the the issue 153 Palestinians asylum seekers. He was speaking during the ANC national executive committee meeting, and said especially the Department of Home Affairs, led by the DA’s minister, Leon Schreiber, has failed to effectively inform citizens on this issue:
# The DA says Tourism minister Patricia de Lille may have misled Parliament over governance failures at SA Tourism. The party urges Parliament’s portfolio committee on Tourism to summon De Lille and release key documents, including forensic reports and legal reports related to suspended CEO Nombulelo Guliwe. The DA’s Haseena Ismail says the minister ignored or denied serious issues flagged since 2024, failed to act on warnings about Guliwe, and continues to withhold information under legal privilege:
# KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi has placed all disaster management teams on high alert as severe weather is expected from today to Monday. The province may experience heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms from a cut-off low-pressure system. The department’s spokesperson , Senzelwe Mzila, advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and report emergencies to local disaster centres:
# Azerbaijan summoned Russian ambassador Mikhail Yevdokimov on Friday to issue a strong protest after a Russian Iskander missile damaged its embassy in Kyiv. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, in a statement, said the blast from the missile destroyed part of the embassy’s perimeter wall and caused serious damage to the diplomatic compound. The incident happened during a Russian missile and drone attack on the Ukrainian capital on Friday morning. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky both condemned the incident, with Aliyev calling it an unacceptable violation of international law.
# Rugby: Dynamic loose forward Paul de Villiers has signed a contract extension that will keep him in Cape Town until at least 2029. The 22-year-old former Junior Springbok captain has been a revelation at openside flank this year, stepping up in the absence of injured World Cup winner Deon Fourie. Director of Rugby John Dobson says securing De Villiers’ services on a long-term deal is a huge boost. He added de Villiers has exceeded their expectations this year and established himself as a key member of the team.
# And finally: The West Coast National Park celebrates 40 years of protecting South Africa’s coastal ecosystems, biodiversity, and cultural heritage. Since 1985, SANParks and partners have safeguarded the Langebaan Lagoon, Postberg, fynbos, and offshore islands, while promoting sustainable tourism and community engagement. SanParks’ JP Louw says the annual wildflower displays attract over 100-thousand visitors, and ongoing conservation and education initiatives ensure the park remains a flagship for ecological preservation and socio-economic development.
