# The Madlanga Commission has heard an explosive 2018 audio recording capturing a heated exchange between Crime Intelligence head Major General Feroz Khan and Brigadier Leonora Phetle following a workplace dispute. The argument escalated into an assault when Khan reprimanded Phetle for not addressing him by his official rank:

Retired SAPS Colonel Kobus Roelofse has meanwhile told the Madlanga Commission that IDAC head Andrea Johnson allegedly disclosed details of a protected disclosure made against her. Johnson allegedly asked former journalist Barry Bateman to obtain documents linked to an assault complaint against suspended Major General Feroz Khan by Crime Intelligence officer Leonora Phetle. He testified that former NPA’s head Shamila Batohi’s office had informed Johnson of the affidavit and its contents:

# The DA urges Tshwane’s acting city manager, Musa Kumalo, not to approve any irregular procurement or unlawful spending. This follows the suspension of city manager Johann Mettler. The party claims Mettler’s suspension could open the door to corruption. The DA’s Cilliers Brink says the party will review all procurement decisions made during this period if elected to govern after the November local government elections:

# Standard Bank says South Africa’s economy is showing signs of recovery as improvements in governance and infrastructure begin to boost growth. The bank’s chief economist, Goolam Ballim, forecasts economic growth of 1.7-percent next year, rising to two-percent in 2028, which is more optimistic than the International Monetary Fund’s forecast. Ballim says stronger institutions and continued reforms will be key to sustaining faster economic growth.

# Tennis: Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev secured their places in tomorrow’s Wimbledon 2026 men’s singles final after straight-set victories on Centre Court. Defending champion and world number one Jannik Sinner dominated Novak Djokovic in a comprehensive 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 masterclass, frustrating the seven-time champion with clinical serving and heavy baseline hitting. Earlier, Germany’s Alexander Zverev ended the fairytale run of British wild card Arthur Féry with a powerful three-set victory. Tomorrow’s final start at 5 pm.

# And finally, the Cango Caves in the Western Cape will officially reopen to visitors today after it was confirmed that the road closure affecting access to the popular tourist attraction has been lifted. Although a stop-and-go traffic system remains in place, the route is now open. Management says it’s looking forward to welcoming visitors back to one of South Africa’s oldest and most popular heritage sites.
