# President Cyril Ramaphosa says driving financial inclusion remains a top national priority to reduce inequality and support households and businesses. Answering questions in the National Assembly, Ramaphosa said that while South Africa has a world-class financial sector, access to finance must be expanded further. He confirmed that while the Postbank has not yet met conditions for a full banking license, the government is working to stabilise it and prevent the collapse of the South African Post Office:
# The MK Party has filed a formal complaint against president Cyril Ramaphosa and Agriculture minister John Steenhuisen. The party is accusing them of breaching the Executive Members’ Ethics Act during their visit to the White House earlier this year. The complaint stems from remarks Steenhuisen made in the Oval Office, where he said the DA joined the government of national unity to prevent both the MK Party and the EFF from entering government. MK Party wants Ramaphosa to apologise for failing to intervene after Steenhuisen’s remarks.
# AfriForum has raised serious concerns over government’s intention to extend the Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association of South Africa’s mandate beyond 2026. # The City of Tshwane has warned motorists of significant traffic disruptions this morning as Botho Ba Rena Civil and Black Nationalist Forum march to the Union Buildings. Protesters, calling for solutions to the Hammanskraal water crisis, will gather at Kgosi Mampuru and Madiba Street at 10 am and proceed along Madiba Street, dispersing at 2 pm. Key affected streets include Madiba, Bosman, Thabo Sehume, and Steve Biko Road. Drivers are advised to use Leyds Street, Eskia Mphahlele Drive, and Pretorius Street.
# The Nepali Army has accused protesters of taking advantage of the current crisis by damaging, looting, and setting fire to public and private property. The worst unrest in decades rocked the country this week, set off by a ban on social media and discontent at political corruption and nepotism. This led to prime minister KP Sharma Oli resigning. Protesters also set fire to the parliament building in Kathmandu. At least 22 people have died since the unrest began. The army says if the situation continues, it will take full control.
# Soccer: Bafana Bafana took another step towards qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, after holding Nigeria to a one-all draw at the Free State Stadium. South Africa took the lead courtesy of an own goal by William Troost-Ekong. However, Calvin Bassey scored the equaliser for the Super Eagles just before halftime. The point sees Bafana move to 17 points, maintaining their position atop Group C, with two qualifiers left. Coach Hugo Broos says he is proud of his players:
