# US president Donald Trump claims a complete and total ceasefire has been agreed between Israel and Iran. On a post on Truth Social, he says the first phase of the ceasefire will begin in the coming hours, where both countries will wind down their military operations. However, Iran’s Foreign minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, has posted on X saying there is no ceasefire, but if Israel stops its illegal aggression now, Iran has no intention to continue its response afterwards. Israel has yet to respond.
# The DA has demanded the urgent release of the Moorhouse Report following the arrest of 12 South African National Defence Force members linked to the 2023 assassination of Hawks investigator Frans Mathipa. The DA’s Chris Hattingh says the report allegedly exposes rogue military networks involved in torture, smuggling, and political killings. He calls for full transparency, prosecutions, and a plan to dismantle illegal SANDF operations threatening national security and the rule of law:
# The Special Investigating Unit says it has obtained a court order preventing former National Lotteries Commission senior manager, Sanele Dlamini, from accessing his pension benefits. This is until the finalisation of a civil case against him, related to the misallocation of six-million-rand in NLC grant funds. The SIU says its probe revealed that an NLC-funded project, a sports complex, was never initiated, and supporting documents were falsified. It says, amongst other allegations, Dlamini facilitated the irregular disbursement of funds to the Motheo Sports and Entertainment Foundation.
# Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane has expressed sadness at the passing of two Grade 5 boy learners from Dan Radebe Primary School in Duduza, Ekurhuleni. They are suspected to have drowned after their bodies were discovered in a water pond last Friday. The department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, says the pond was reportedly formed by excavations at a nearby construction site:
# Cosatu has thrown its weight behind Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union’s Restore Dignity March taking place today in Pretoria. The union is demanding action against injustices in the criminal justice system. The march highlights worker rights, dignity, and sexual exploitation allegations at SAPS training facilities. The federation condemns all workplace sexual harassment, urging harsh penalties for offenders. Cosatu calls for nationwide training on the 2021 Sexual Offences Act amendments to combat gender-based violence.
# The Junior Springboks are heading to Verona, Italy, to fine-tune preparations for the 2025 World Rugby Under-20 Championship, kicking off Sunday. They’ll face Australia first, followed by tough and exciting pool clashes with England and Scotland. Forward Siphosethu Mnebelele highlighted the squad’s pride in representing South Africa. He also emphasised that full back Damian Willemse’s achievements are an inspiration for becoming senior Springbok someday:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-80-cents and the euro at 20-rand-65-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-12-cents and Bitcoin trades at 105-thousand-151-dollar.
