Discussions will explore leadership and collaboration in driving a comprehensive approach to energy security with a focus on technology and innovation. Ramaphosa says he will engage with fellow world leaders toward finding solutions for energy security and related issues linked to South Africa’s G20 Presidency:
# Basic Education minister Siviwe Gwarube says she is hopeful Parliament will pass the revised Fiscal Framework today. Following its adoption, Cabinet members must submit adjusted strategic and performance plans by 13 June. Last week, Parliament’s Finance Committee approved the framework supporting the 2025 Budget, enabling government work to continue. The minister emphasised the government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, improved service delivery, and tackling unemployment and inequality:
# The annual Absa SACCI Township Economy and Development Conference will take place this week at the Umfolozi Resort in Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal. The event will focus on showcasing the economic impact of township enterprises in regional development. The conference will host interactive workshops, networking sessions, and engagement with corporate, academic, and government stakeholders. # Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane has expressed sadness at the tragic death of a 34-year-old male educator from Tetelo Secondary School in Soweto. According to reports, the educator had allegedly requested an e-hailing service last Wednesday and subsequently went missing. He was found dead on Monday. The department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, says the death of such an invaluable educator is a loss that ultimately alters the trajectory of children’s futures:
# US president Donald Trump has declined to put a timeline on ending the deployment of the National Guard and the Marines to Los Angeles. This comes as protests over his administration’s immigration crackdown continue. Trump authorised the deployment of two-thousand National Guard members on Saturday night amid intensifying protests. On Monday, he doubled that number to four-thousand, and 700 Marines were mobilised. Trump says the National Guard and the Marines will be on the ground until there is no danger:
# Rugby: Riley Norton will lead a strong Junior Springbok Under-20 squad for the World Rugby Championship, which will be staged in Italy from June 29th to July 19th. The squad includes Phiwayinkosi Kubheka and Ian van der Merwe, who have not previously played for the SA U20s, while Jaco Grobbelaar, Stephanus Linde, and Jaco Williams are returning to the squad.
