BULLETIN 23 November 7 am
Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The ANC confirms the expulsion of former president Jacob Zuma
# A technical breakthrough allows Eskom zero buyers to convert meters beyond the deadline
# And rugby: The Springboks are determined to finish the season on a strong note against Wales
# The ANC’s National Disciplinary Committee of Appeal upheld the decision of the National Disciplinary Committee to expel Jacob Zuma from the ANC. National spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri, says as a former party president Zuma was expected to embody the highest standards of leadership. By establishing and leading a rival political party, he undermined the unity and cohesion of the movement. Bhengu-Motsiri says the decision must serve as a reminder that no individual is greater than the movement, and that the party’s strength lies in its leadership and dedication to the aspirations of the people:
# Eskom has finalised a technical breakthrough allowing current zero buyers with active meters to update their meters beyond the 24 November deadline. Zero buyers should go to their legal vending sites with their meter numbers to buy electricity. They will be issued their Key Change Tokens by the vending agents to make their meters KRN2 compliant. Tokens must be purchased before 24 November to trigger the activation. The customer can then visit any of the Eskom sites to complete the conversion process, which can be done after the 24th.
# The North West legislature’s portfolio committee on Community Safety calls for a stronger focus on dismantling the criminal syndicates behind illegal mining in the province. During their visit to the Stilfontein mine, the committee discussed rescue efforts for illegal miners and stressed that tackling these criminal networks is key to preventing future tragedies. The committee’s Freddy Sonakile called on the police to intensify efforts and bring those responsible to justice:
# 10 Downing Street says the British government would fulfil its legal obligations as a member of the International Criminal Court and arrest Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he arrived on British soil. The ICC earlier issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Israeli defence secretary Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity relating to the war in Gaza. Ireland, France and Italy have also signalled they would arrest Netanyahu if he came to their countries. Israel has rejected the court’s jurisdiction and denies committing war crimes.
# And, rugby: Springbok assistant coach Mzwandile Stick and captain Siya Kolisi say the Boks are determined to deliver a complete 80-minute performance and finish the season on a high note against Wales in Cardiff today. Victory would see the Boks complete the season with 11 wins, while they are also aiming to win all their matches on their November tour for the first time since 2013. Stick and Kolisi warn that Wales will come out guns blazing, especially after losing their last eleven Test matches. Kick-off is at 7:40 pm.
