Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# ATM urges South Africans to rekindle the spirit of activism and fight for equality
# Former Kruger Park rangers sentenced to 20-years for rhino poaching
# And, Rugby: Much on the line in today’s final Rugby Championship round
# The African Transformation Movement has called on South Africans to reignite their spirit of activism in the fight for equality. In light of the repatriation of 42 fallen heroes, the party emphasised the importance of honouring their sacrifices by tackling ongoing issues like poverty and corruption. ATM spokesperson Zama Ntshona urged citizens to prioritise collective well-being over personal gain, ensuring the continued pursuit of justice and empowerment for all:
# The EFF has slammed the National Prosecuting Authority for giving former Steinhoff physician Gerhardus Burger a suspended sentence. After pleading guilty to insider trading, Burger received what the party deems a lenient sentence, insufficient considering the significant financial harm caused to workers and investors following Steinhoff’s collapse. EFF spokesperson Leigh-Ann Mathys accuses the NPA of being too soft on white corporate criminals and called for Burger to face jail time for proper rehabilitation.
# The National Prosecuting Authority welcomes the 20-year prison sentences given to former Kruger National Park rangers Lucky Mkanzi and Nzima Joel Sihlangu for rhino poaching. The Skukuza Regional Court in Mpumalanga convicted the two on charges of conspiracy and killing two rhinos in 2018. NPA regional spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa says poaching threatens endangered species and the environment, and this sentencing sends a strong message to protect wildlife for future generations:
# Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Iran that Israel will strike, if it is hit first. He told the UN General Assembly in New York there is no place in Iran or Middle East that the long arm of Israel cannot reach. Delegates, including from Lebanon and the Palestinian territories, walked out as Netanyahu took the podium amid a mix of cheers and angry yells. Netanyahu said after hearing the lies and slanders leveled at his country by many of the speakers at the podium, he decided to set the record straight.
# And, rugby: Much is on the line in today’s final round of the Rugby Championship. South Africa needs just one log point against Argentina to clinch the title for the first time since 2019, while the Pumas need a bonus point victory and prevent the Springboks from scoring a log point to be crowned champions for the first time ever. If the All Blacks beat the Wallabies this morning, they can finish second if the Boks win this afternoon, while Australia will earn the wooden spoon whatever the results are.
