# International Relations and Co-operation minister Ronald Lamola says South Africa’s non-alignment policy is sacrosanct even under the government of national unity. He spoke at a symposium hosted by the South African Institute of International Affairs yesterday. Lamola says the evolving international world order necessitates the strengthening of the non-aligned movement. He adds that South Africa, with its unique policy of active non-alignment, is not reactive but proactive in its pursuit of peace:
# Multi-national mining group Sibanye-Stillwater has become the latest victim of a cyber attack affecting its IT systems globally. According to Moneyweb, the company has implemented immediate containment measures upon discovering the incident. The group says with operations across five continents, it has proactively isolated IT systems and safeguarded its data. The company says it’s committed to full remediation and is voluntarily reporting the incident to regulators.

Twelve learners from Rocklands Primary School and Laerskool Blyvooruitsig, along with the vehicle’s driver, lost their lives on Wednesday. Fritz urges parents to remain vigilant in ensuring their children’s safe transportation:
# The ANC in the Western Cape has called on premier Alan Winde to declare a provincial state of disaster following heavy rains, snowfall, and gale-force winds. This severe weather since Sunday has caused significant damage to homes, roads, and infrastructure. The ANC’s Khalid Sayed believes declaring a state of disaster will enable the province to access necessary funds for rebuilding and recovery efforts:
# A new poll shows that US president Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump would be nearly tied if the election were held today, with Biden at 46-percent and Trump at 47-percent. The poll conducted by Ipsos, ABC News, and the Washington Post, sampled two-thousand-431 adults, 32-percent Democrats, 29-percent Republicans and 27-percent independents. If vice president Kamala Harris were to replace Biden as the Democratic nominee, the poll shows that 49-percent of voters would back Harris and 46-percent Trump.
# Cricket: Human rights protection non-governmental organisation Citizens for Integrity is suing Cricket South Africa. This is over the cricket body’s decision to strip David Teeger of the captaincy of the SA Under-19 side, before the start of the Under-19 World Cup in January. The Jewish athlete evoked controversy with his comments relating to the Israel/Gaza conflict. In court papers the NGO says CSA acted irrationally and unlawfully, and its decision embarrassed and humiliated Teeger, infringing on his rights.
