In this bulletin:
# The IFP leader calls for a swift resolution in the government formation talks
# The Black Business Council is concerned over the slow government negotiations
# And, cricket: South Africa is confident ahead of the T20 World Cup final against India
# The IFP has reaffirmed its commitment to the government of national unity amid concerns over the delayed cabinet formation. The party attributes the delay to the ANC-DA stalemate over positions. Party leader Velenkosini Hlabisa says it is as concerned as most South Africans, but he has confidence in the leadership of both parties. He urged them to resolve their differences swiftly, ensuring that governance work proceeds:
The Black Business Council has also expressed concern over the slow pace of government of national unity negotiations between president Cyril Ramaphosa and DA leader John Steenhuisen. Ramaphosa emphasised the need for a fair deal leading to a stable government. Black Business Council CEO Kganki Matabane told the SABC the ANC must maintain its stance on economic transformation amid differing views with the DA:
# Gauteng High Court judge Anthony Millar has ruled the State Attorney’s classification of black advocates under 30 as not historically disadvantaged, is unconstitutional. Millar found this retrogressive definition disregarded the economic, social and educational consequences of apartheid. Miller also set aside National Treasury’s litigation tender issued last year on the retrogressive use of the definition, stating it is a subject to review. The decision followed a challenge by the General Council of the Bar and Advocates for Transformation over the state’s tender process for referral advocates.
# Cricket: South Africa faces a David and Goliath battle in the T20 World Cup final against India at Kensington Oval this afternoon. The Proteas aim for their maiden World Cup trophy after defeating Afghanistan in the semis by nine wickets. India, who beat England by 68 runs, are anticipated to be tough opponents. Players, including fast bowler Kagiso Rabada and batsman Quinton de Kock, will show off their skills against a tough Indian side with veterans, including batsman Virat Kohli, in an exciting showdown.
# And, South Africa has expanded its protected areas by 11-percent in four years, adding 89 new sites totaling 11-thousand-500 square kilometres. The International Union for Conservation of Nature highlighted this growth, which includes marine protected areas, Ramsar sites, nature reserves, botanical gardens, and biosphere reserves. The country’s biodiversity efforts, organised through institutions like SANParks, reflect a commitment to conservation leadership aiming to meet global biodiversity targets by 2030.
