# Former ANC president Thabo Mbeki has rallied his support behind the ANC’s decision to subject ex-president Jacob Zuma to a disciplinary hearing. The ANC delayed action after Zuma’s allegiance to the uMkhonto weSizwe Party. Speaking on a campaign in Soshanguve, Pretoria, Mbeki stressed the importance of ANC adherence to its own rules. The upcoming hearing, set for Tuesday, could result in Zuma’s expulsion from the party:
# An independent report has found no substantiated evidence in allegations against the National Student Financial Aid Scheme by the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse. The report conducted addressed concerns regarding a recorded conversation between the former scheme’s board chairperson and individuals linked to Coinvest Africa. It recommended measures to minimise potential legal claims, including reprimanding Khosa for unauthorised discussions. Spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi says the report also advised speeding up the Werksmans report implementation and making contract termination decisions without prejudicing student beneficiaries:
# The Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court has delayed proceedings against Titan E Services director, Jaqueline Legoabe, until August 2, 2024. Legoabe is accused of defrauding SARS by evading over 17-million-rand in taxes between 2015 and 2020. Investigating directorate spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, states that Legoabe faces 30 counts of fraud for alleged tax misrepresentations, alongside alternative charges under the Tax Administration Act:
# Three people died when an aeroplane crashed late yesterday afternoon in Pioneers Park in Windhoek. According to Namibian Police chief inspector Elifas Kuwinga the deceased were burnt beyond recognition. Kuwinga revealed the aircraft, a Westair AF 406, had departed from Eros Airport for a maintenance test flight with two pilots and one mechanic on board. The crash occurred on residential premises on Rieckmann Street in Pioneers Park.
# And, tennis: Felix Auger-Alliassime advanced to the final of the Madrid Open when Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic withdrew after only six games in the first set, due to injury. The Canadian will face seventh seed Andrey Rublev of Russia in the final. He beat the twelfth seed Taylor Fritz of America 6-4, 6-3 in the other semi-final.
