# ANC Deputy President Paul Mashatile says that the party will set up a service delivery war room, which secretary-general Fikile Mbalula will lead. It will focus on issues such as improving access to water, building and maintaining infrastructure, roads, and addressing load reduction. Speaking on the second day of the ANC’s national executive committee Lekgotla in Boksburg, Gauteng, on Sunday, Mashatile said the service delivery war room will be able to coordinate service delivery responses from its members at different levels of government:
# Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane, has underscored the urgent need for a comprehensive framework to mitigate against climate induced disasters across South Africa. The department’s spokesperson, Tsekiso Machike, says municipalities are urged to align their disaster response with the country’s growth trajectory, stressing that proactive planning is essential to mitigate the impact of natural disasters:
# Eskom will return two-thousand-320-megawatts of generation capacity ahead of the evening peak today to maintain a stable electricity supply throughout the week. The power utility’s spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena, says planned maintenance was at an average of five-thousand-377-megawatts, accounting for 11.43-percent of total generation capacity. She says this is slightly more than last week’s 11.4-percent:
# Gauteng premier Panyaza Lesufi is demanding urgent government reforms to make scholar transport safe. He addressed a joint funeral service for three of the victims of the Vanderbijlpark scholar transport crash in Sebokeng on Sunday. The crash, which occurred last week, claimed the lives of 14 learners when their minibus collided with a truck. Lesufi says the provincial government has the duty to fix all that seems to be wrong in the province’s scholar transport sector:
# Minnesota Governor, Tim Walz, says president Donald Trump must pull his immigration enforcement officers out of the city of Minneapolis, before they kill another American in the street. This follows the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by a Border Patrol agent over the weekend in Minneapolis, marking the second death at the hands of federal officers in the city this month. The 37-year-old was an ICU nurse at a local Veterans Affairs hospital. Walz says Minnesota believes in law and order and peace.
# Cricket: South Africa is out of the Under-19 World Cup semifinal race after suffering a crushing six-wicket defeat to the reigning champions, Australia, in Windhoek. The young Proteas were bowled out for 118, with Charles Lachmund claiming three wickets. In reply, JJ Basson took three wickets; however, opener Steven Hogan top-scored with 43 off 73 balls as Australia knocked off the total inside 33 overs. South Africa will face Sri Lanka in their final Super Six match on Thursday, before closing out their tournament with a placement match.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-3-cents and the euro at 19-rand-5-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-92-cents and Bitcoin trades at 86-thousand-292-dollars. Gold sells at five-thousand-21-dollars-74-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 63-dollars-30-cents a barrel.
