# President Cyril Ramaphosa says for as long as the majority of black South Africans live in poverty, for as long as inequality persists, South Africa will not find true reconciliation. He delivered the keynote address at the national commemoration of Reconciliation Day at the Ncome Museum in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday. Ramaphosa stated that the pursuit of inclusive economic growth and job creation, efforts to reduce poverty and bring down the cost of living, are essential for reconciliation:
Ramaphosa also says it is concerning that there are those, inside and outside the country, who are trying their utmost to paint a false picture of the South African people. Ramaphosa said the country’s detractors are painting a false picture designed to sow fear and hatred, but they will not succeed:
# The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry will today hand its interim report to president Cyril Ramaphosa, which will not be made public. Phase one of the commission examined allegations by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, including political interference in SAPS, the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team, and alleged corruption in Ekurhuleni Metro Police. Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says Ramaphosa will review the evidence before releasing the final report:
# The National Consumer Commission has identified 38 companies across Gauteng, North West, Western Cape, and KwaZulu-Natal that failed to deliver goods or services, or supplied defective products after taking payment online. Many of these suppliers are untraceable, having disappeared from registered addresses or shut down websites, leaving consumers without recourse. The commission says preliminary findings indicate some operators are impersonating legitimate businesses, highlighting growing risks in the online marketplace and the need for vigilance when purchasing goods or services digitally.
# South African DJ and media personality Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock was shot and killed in Johannesburg on Tuesday. The 40-year-old, who had worked at 5FM and now at CliffCentral, was gunned down outside the Carlton Centre. According to reports, DJ Warras was actively involved with a security company, and they were busy with evictions when an unknown gunman walked up to him and fired a single shot. His sister Nicole Stock described her brother’s murder as a tremendous loss:
# Rugby: The President of SA Rugby, Mark Alexander, has paid tribute to former Springbok Women captain Lusanda Dumke, who passed away in East London on Tuesday following a battle with a rare gastric cancer. She was 29. Dumke was SA Rugby’s Women’s Rugby Player of the Year in 2022, played 33 Tests, and captained South Africa three times. She also represented the Springbok Women’s Sevens team in her career. Alexander said she will be remembered as a symbol of courage, leadership, and resilience far beyond her years.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-72-cents and the euro at 19-rand-66-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-46-cents and Bitcoin trades at 87-thousand-657-dollars.
