# President Ramaphosa says Africa’s priorities were placed on the G20 agenda
# New foot-and-mouth cases trigger restrictions in the Free State
# And, Donald Trump claims Ukrainian leaders have shown zero gratitude
# President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa’s Presidency has sought to place Africa’s growth and development at the heart of the G20’s agenda. He closed the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg on Sunday, the first summit to be held in Africa. Ramaphosa says the global Group of 20 has demonstrated its ability to still come together in pursuit of a better world. He added that the greatest opportunity for prosperity in the 21st century lies in Africa:
Ramaphosa also says the G20 South Africa Summit Leaders’ Declaration is a commitment to concrete actions that will improve the lives of people in every part of the world. The declaration was adopted by overwhelming consensus on the first day of the Leaders’ Summit on Saturday. Giving the closing remarks, Ramaphosa says the declaration also reaffirms the G20’s renewed commitment to multilateral cooperation and recognition that their shared goals outweigh their differences:
# The South African Local Government Association says the decision to postpone the rollout of the AARTO system to 1 July 2026 gives municipalities time to resolve key challenges, including training, system alignment, and sustainable funding. Salga spokesperson Motalatale Modiba says the organisation has praised the constructive engagement, noting that ongoing consultation is essential. He emphasised Salga’s commitment to partnering with the government to reduce road accidents and improve enforcement.
# The Department of Agriculture has confirmed 15 new foot-and-mouth disease cases in the Free State for November 2025. Animal movement is now restricted within a ten-kilometre radius of affected farms. Officials say the outbreak forms part of a larger, ongoing wave impacting several provinces and causing major financial strain on livestock farmers. Government efforts, including quarantine, vaccination, and intensified surveillance, continue. Authorities warn that the prolonged outbreak could contribute to rising costs and further pressure on the agriculture sector.
# US president Donald Trump says Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky and his government have shown no gratitude for America’s efforts to end the war. Trump has been pressuring Ukraine to accept his 28-point peace plan, which is widely considered favourable to Russia and has prompted concerns from European allies. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump says he inherited a war that should have never happened, a war that is a loser for everyone, especially the millions of people who have so needlessly died.
# Motorsport: Championship leader Lando Norris and McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri were both disqualified from the Las Vegas Grand Prix, after their respective cars failed post-race technical checks. Skid blocks on both cars were found to be less than the minimum depth after the race in which Norris finished second and Piastri fourth. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won the race with Mercedes’ George Russell upgraded to second and his teammate Kimi Antonelli moving up to third. Norris now leads Piastri and Verstappen by 24 points in the championship.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-36-cents and the euro at 20-rand-1-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-75-cents and Bitcoin trades at 87-thousand-927-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-64-dollars-27-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 61-dollars-79-cents a barrel.
