# The DA says it is troubled by the delay in the South African Bureau of Standards maladministration probe. The DA’s Toby Chance says that in February this year, minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Parks Tau, under pressure from the Democratic Alliance, appointed TSU International to investigate allegations of maladministration at the SABS that had surfaced from last August. He says the TSU’s report was due at the end of June:
# The Activists and Citizens Forum says the testimony of Police Head of Legal Services, Marga Van Rooyen, has once again exposed the ineffectiveness of Members of Parliament. # President Cyril Ramaphosa has reportedly stepped in to secure the reinstatement of Patriotic Alliance’s Kenny Kunene as Johannesburg’s mayoral committee member for Transport. Kunene was sworn back in as a councillor on Friday, after he had voluntarily stepped down as an MMC after being linked to murder accused Katiso “KT” Molefe. According to TimesLIVE, the ANC national leadership has ordered that Kunene be restored to his transport portfolio by Tuesday, halting a planned swap of MMC positions between the PA and the EFF.
# The United Nations has reinstated an arms embargo and other sanctions on Iran over its nuclear programme following a process triggered by European powers that Tehran has warned will be met with a harsh response. Britain, France, and Germany initiated the return of sanctions on Iran at the UN Security Council over accusations it had violated a 2015 deal that aimed to stop it from developing a nuclear bomb. Iran denies seeking nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, Iran recalled its ambassadors to Britain, France, and Germany for consultations.
# Motorsport: Spanish Ducati rider Marc Márquez secured his seventh MotoGP world championship at the Japanese Grand Prix, his first since 2019. The 32-year-old finished second behind his teammate Francesco Bagnaia in Motegi to clinch the title, with Honda’s Joan Mir in third. South Africa’s Brad Binder finished 12th. Márquez, who has 11 wins this season and stretched his championship lead to 201 points over his brother Álex, says mentally this was the most difficult title to achieve:
