# KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has accused Police minister Senzo Mchunu of interfering with high-profile investigations. He linked the minister to Vusimusi ‘Cat’ Matlala, who was arrested in May for attempted murder. During a media briefing on Sunday, Mkhwanazi also alleged Mchunu dissolved the political killings task team after it uncovered a crime syndicate linked to politicians, including members of Parliament:
Mkhwanazi also says 121 case dockets under investigation were removed from the political killings task team by Deputy National Commissioner of Crime Detection, Shadrack Sibiya. The task team was established by president Cyril Ramaphosa in 2018:
# Government says the Police Ministry and the Health Department deployed public order police to maintain law and order at health facilities, as South Africans are blocking foreign nationals from accessing healthcare services. Government acting spokesperson, Nomonde Mnukwa, says law enforcement will continue to apply the zero tolerance approach for lawlessness, with decisive action taken against individuals taking the law into their own hands and intimidating patients at health facilities. She says law enforcement officers will continue to arrest and prosecute foreigners who violate the Immigration Act:
# The Gauteng Portfolio Committee on Community Safety has issued a strong warning to victims of crime, particularly victims of gender-based violence, urging them not to withdraw criminal cases against perpetrators. The committee chairperson, Bandile Masuku, says this comes amid growing concern over a disturbing trend that undermines efforts to combat GBV and hold perpetrators accountable. He says 64 cases of gender-based violence were withdrawn by victims at the Fochville Police Station:
# Cricket: Captain Wiaan Mulder scored an unbeaten double-century as South Africa reached 465 for four at stumps on day one of the second Test against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. The Proteas lost two early wickets after being sent in to bat, but a 184-run partnership between Mulder and David Bedingham steadied the ship. Bedingham departed for 82 while teenager Lhuan-dre Pretorius scored 78. Mulder, who will resume today on 264, holds the record for the highest individual scorer on captaincy debut in Tests.

There was a significant increase in nominations, with over one-thousand submissions received. The spokesperson for the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Zimasa Velaphi, says this remarkable growth reflects the richness, diversity, and vibrancy of South Africa’s creative sector.
