Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# Judgment is reserved in the EFF’s Constitutional Court case on Phala Phala
# Russia says it will retaliate another Ukraine strike with US-supplied missiles
# And cricket: The Protea Women play England in their second T20 in Benoni tonight
# The Constitutional Court has reserved judgment in the EFF’s challenge to have the National Assembly’s decision not to adopt the section 89 panel report, irrational and unlawful, and set it aside. The report found prima facie evidence suggesting president Cyril Ramaphosa had a case to answer about the millions of US dollars discovered at his Phala Phala farm in Limpopo. Ramaphosa’s lawyer, advocate Geoff Budlender, told the ConCourt that the president’s farming activities have never been a secret:
# The DA has pledged to fight gender-based violence all year, not just during the 16-days of activism campaign. The party states fighting GBV requires teamwork between government and communities to prevent violence, support survivors, and hold offenders accountable. DA leader John Steenhuisen reaffirmed the party’s commitment to building a safer South Africa, where all citizens can live free from fear and enjoy equal opportunities:
# Gauteng Finance MEC Lebogang Maile says the province has lost six-billion-rand funding from the National Treasury. This is due to Statistics South Africa overstating its population size. The latest Census 2022 data says Gauteng is the most populated province in the country with 15.1 million residents. He delivered the province’s Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement yesterday. Maile says they also lost funding from the provincial equitable share:
# The trial of seven men accused of the Lusikisiki mass killings is set to begin in the Lusikisiki Regional Court in February next year. They are charged with the murder of 18 people in Ngobozana Village on 28 September. One of the accused, Mzukisi Ndamase, is already serving a life sentence for other crimes and is believed to have orchestrated the killings. National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson Luxolo Tyali says all accused remain in custody, having abandoned bail:
# Russia has vowed to retaliate after announcing Ukraine had struck Russian military installations with US-supplied weapons. President Vladimir Putin had earlier warned Kyiv and the West against the missile attacks. Moscow and Kyiv have been ratcheting up their deadly aerial broadsides with increasingly sophisticated weapons over recent days, spurring fears the conflict could further escalate. Ukraine first fired US-made missiles at Russia last week after getting the green light from Washington, and the Kremlin retaliated with an experimental hypersonic missile that hit the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.
# Cricket: The Proteas Women play England in the second of three T20s in Benoni, Gauteng, this evening. The visitors won the first T20 in East London on Sunday by four wickets after restricting the hostesses to 142 for five and then reaching the target with four balls to spare. The final match will take place in Centurion on Saturday. The two countries will then play one-day matches in Kimberley, Durban, and Potchefstroom, followed by a one-off Test in Bloemfontein from the 15th of next month.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-19-cents and the euro at 19-rand-8-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-87-cents and Bitcoin trades at 91-thousand-712-dollar-80-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-631-dollars-47-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 72-dollars-88-cents a barrel.
