The party says the ANC deserved the electoral damage caused by Zuma’s MK Party due to self-serving, corrupt leaders defining the ANC’s current character.
# Deputy President Paul Mashatile will lead the launch of the 16 Days of Activism campaign today in Rustenburg, North West. This year’s theme highlights using technology to combat gender-based violence. Spokesperson Linah Ledwaba says the campaign aims to challenge stereotypes and promote gender equality, calling for a united effort to end violence against women and children:
# Another alleged food poisoning incident has claimed the life of an eight-year-old Grade 2 learner from Thabisile Primary School in Diepkloof, Soweto. It is alleged that the learner fell ill last Wednesday after reportedly consuming biscuits from a local spaza shop. # Cricket: England Women defeated South Africa by four wickets in the first T20 at Buffalo Park in East London, to take a one-nil lead in the three-match series. The Proteas posted 142 for five in their 20 overs with Nadine de Klerk scoring an unbeaten 29. In reply, Nat Sciver-Brunt scored 59 as the visitors reached the target with four balls to spare. This was England’s first outing since their disastrous T20 World Cup group-stage exit in October. The second T20 will be played in Benoni on Wednesday.

# And finally: Renowned South African poet, novelist, painter, and activist Breyten Breytenbach died in Paris at 85 yesterday. In a statement, his family says Breytenbach joined Okhela, a separate ideological wing of the ANC in exile, and was imprisoned upon his return to South Africa in 1975. The family says despite this, his artistic and literary contributions flourished, cementing his place as one of South Africa’s most courageous and visionary figures. Some of Breytenbach’s well-known works include The True Confessions of an Albino Terrorist and A Season in Paradise.
