# The National Prosecuting Authority has accepted the 20-thousand-rand bail for South African Football Association president Danny Jordaan, chief financial officer Gronie Hluyo, and businessman Trevor Neethling. The three appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, accused of allegedly defrauding SAFA of 1.3 million-rand between 2017 and 2019. NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane confirmed the case is postponed to 5 December:
Meanwhile, Activist group NotInMyName International is demanding that Jordaan steps aside pending the outcome of fraud and theft charges against him. Jordaan faces allegations of misusing SAFA funds for personal security and public image cleanup. The Hawks recently seized evidence, including hard drives and documents, following a search at SAFA’s offices. In a statement, the group says that as the case returns to court on 5 December, Jordaan should temporarily be removed from office.
# Parliament’s portfolio committee on Public Service and Administration has resolved to push ahead with processing the Public Service Commission Bill. This follows a legal opinion on the constitutionality of the bill that the committee received. The bill will enable the PSC to operate as an independent and impartial constitutional body. The committee says it is satisfied with the views of the state law advisor, and the PSC stating that the idea of a single public service is entrenched in the Constitution.
# The DA in Gauteng says it will be writing to the National Treasury regarding possible violations of the Municipal Finance Management Act regarding the Lilian Ngoyi Street rehabilitation project contract. The project is 22-percent complete, a year after a methane gas explosion. One person died while 40 others sustained injuries. So far, more than 17-million-rand has been spent out of almost 180-million-rand allocated for the project’s completion. The DA’s, Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku, says Lillian Ngoyi Street looks like a warzone:
# The Border Management Authority has temporarily suspended operations at Mpumalanga’s Lebombo port of entry due to ongoing post-election protests in Mozambique. The protests, driven by opposition demands for fresh elections, have led to the closure of roads and disrupted the movement of vehicles and cargo. The authority’s Commissioner Michael Masiapato says all border activities have been stopped to ensure safety:
# Tennis: The first match of the Billie Jean King Cup tournament in Málaga between hostesses Spain and Poland will now be played tomorrow after a red weather alert was issued for extreme rain and flooding in parts of the country. This follows after over 200 people were killed in recent floods, described as the worst in Spain’s history. Twelve countries are taking part in the women’s tournament in Andalusia. The last few days will overlap with the men’s Davis Cup Finals at the same venue.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-21-cents and the euro at 19-rand-23-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-15-cents and Bitcoin trades at 90-thousand-148-dollar-90-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-574-dollars-48-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 71-dollars-93-cents a barrel.
