# Police minister Senzo Mchunu has hailed the 15-year sentencing of former PRASA Engineering head, Daniel Mthimkhulu, as a milestone in the fight against corruption. Mthimkhulu, convicted of fraudulently misrepresenting his qualifications, was ordered to repay PRASA 5.8-million-rand. The minister emphasised the damage caused to the institution’s integrity, which millions rely on for safe, reliable transport:
# National Head of the Hawks, Godfrey Lebeya, has announced the arrest of over 30 suspects linked to state capture. Addressing the media, Lebeya highlighted three convictions, including former PRASA Engineering head Daniel Mthimkhulu’s 15-year sentence. He warned that those involved in state capture will face prosecution, emphasising the severe consequences for betraying the public trust in vital institutions:
# The ANC in Tshwane has submitted another motion of no confidence in mayor Cilliers Brink, saying it has lost confidence in his ability to lead the metro. The party temporarily withdrew its motion of no confidence in Brink last month following a High Court challenge by the mayor. He challenged the lawfulness of the motion, citing procedural irregularities. The ANC has highlighted challenges including the six-billion-rand owed to Eskom and poor service delivery. The party wants to table the motion at the next council meeting on the 26th of this month.
# American police last year questioned the teenager accused of killing four people at his high school in Georgia this week. BBC News reports the FBI as saying 14-year-old Colt Gray denied in May last year he was behind internet posts containing images of guns and a warning of a school shooting. He will be tried as an adult over the deaths of two teachers and two learners at Apalachee High School in Winder. A teacher and eight children were injured.
# Rugby: Springbok captain Siya Kolisi will face the All Blacks with a fractured nose in tomorrow’s Rugby Championship Test in Cape Town. He was in doubt for the rematch after being injured in last weekend’s match at Ellis Park but was announced in the starting team yesterday. Coach Rassie Erasmus says Kolisi was given the medical advice to either play tomorrow or get his nose reset and miss the game. He decided his nose job could wait rather than being out for up to three weeks now.
