# Cape Town International and OR Tambo are amongst the top ten best airports in the world. Cape Town Airport is second, while OR Tambo is sixth in AirHelp’s 2024 ranking. Airports are ranked in categories including on-time performance, and passenger insight into the facilities. Hamad International Airport in Qatar tops the list. Airports Company South Africa says this recognition shows that the hard work is paying off, as they endeavour to ensure that the country’s airports offer among the best facilities in the world.
# Chefs With Compassion has launched its fifth annual 67-thousand-litres for Mandela Day campaign. The initiative invites chefs, cooks, corporates, and individuals to cook 67-thousand-litres of soup on Mandela Day, honouring Madiba’s legacy while addressing food insecurity. Last year, 114 participants cooked over 104-thousand-litres of soup. This year, the campaign aims to surpass expectations, promoting the creation of nutritious meals and reducing food waste. They have challenged the food industry to be more sustainable and community-orientated.
# An honours student at the Walter Sisulu University in the Eastern Cape, Siphesande Kotelana, has earned a spot to attend the sixth International Youth Think Tank Symposium at Stellenbosch University next month. Kotelana, who is studying politics and international relations, is among 24 candidates selected from across Africa. The university says the symposium is a platform where young minds across the continent come together to exchange ideas, debate policies, and propose solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
# Two University of Fort Hare students, Ntlantla Valtein and Lilly Kuhle Mbengo, have been selected to represent the institution at the Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition in Switzerland. Now in its 16th year, the competition invites undergraduate and master’s students from universities around the world, to form teams of two and submit heads of argument for a hypothetical human rights case. Fort Hare is among 24 universities globally and the only South African institution whose teams have advanced to the final stage of this global competition.
# And, the Merebank Fair organisers have promised a variety of entertainment in KwaZulu-Natal over the next two weekends. Presented by the Merebank Legacy Book Project, the event returns to the community for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic, with 2019 marking the last time an event of its kind took place. In addition to the traditional fair activities, there will also be an Edu-fair component, providing a platform for all schools in the area to showcase their achievements and talents.
