BULLETIN 8 July
Good afternoon, here is your Good News:
# The University of Pretoria has already raised over 15-million-rand from 38 organisation donors for missing middle students. Campaign manager Josiah Mavundla says the aim to stretch the 900 participating donors to one-thousand this year. Reaching their goals will signify that the support for the university is increasing and the donor pool is growing steadily. He says this year marks the final year of the campaign to raise 100-million-rand in new money over three years. Mavundla says this target would be a significant milestone in the fundraising efforts.
# Over 600-thousand-rand has been raised by a South African musician to support eight-year-old Rylyn Clark, who has been battling Lyme Disease for nearly two years. David Scott, widely known as The Kiffness, often uses his influential platform for charitable causes. Scott, renowned for viral remixes and philanthropy, says he was deeply moved by Rylyn’s viral rendition of Bob Marley’s, Three Little Birds, during the Covid-19 pandemic. He adds that he wants to do more to help Rylyn and his family.
# Sol Plaatje University student, Nosipho Khumari, is set to represent South Africa at the Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sports Association Region V Games. The highly anticipated soccer tournament is set to kick off at the Tshwane University of Technology today. Hailing from Lerato Park, Roodepan, Khumari started playing soccer at the age of 12, and in 2019, made it to the Under-19 squad of the Northern Cape. This year, she participated in the inter-varsity tournament at North West University, where her team won silver.
# A soup kitchen in Mamelodi, Pretoria, is providing warm vegetable soup and bread to people waiting in long lines for healthcare at Mamelodi West Clinic. The Ditlalemeso organisation started the soup kitchen to help those, especially the elderly, who wake up early to get primary healthcare. Funded by local donations, the soup kitchen operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays with five volunteers. The organisation aims to extend this service to all Mamelodi clinics.
