# The City of Cape Town says it continues to leverage and improve its strategic assets portfolio under the Economic Growth Directorate. Mayoral committee member for Economic Growth, James Vos, says the portfolio manages immovable property assets of high economic, heritage, tourist, and environmental value. He says these include the Athlone Stadium, the Good Hope Centre, City Hall, the Grand Parade, and the Desmond and Leah Tutu House:
# The Red Cross Society Western Cape’s annual fundraising high tea and auction takes place at the Vineyard Hotel in Cape Town today. Local TV celebrity, Katlego Maboe, will be the master of ceremonies. One of the world’s best motivational speakers, Steve Harris, is delivering a talk on mental toughness. The auction to raise funds for the organisation will offer guests a chance to buy some incredible original artworks from Oval Art Décor Gallery by artists Nathania Boch, Vicky Sanders, and Matthew Bell.
# University of Venda student, Vhuthu Tshilengo, is currently participating in the Astrophysics Summer Programme for International Research Experience in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The six-week on-site programme is designed for highly motivated students to engage in cutting-edge astronomy research at the Anton Pannekoek Institute at the University of Amsterdam. Tshilengo is in the final year of her Master of Science in Physics, and her research project involves using existing MeerKAT data from the MHONGOOSE large survey project.
# The Tshwane University of Technology says the launch of the City of Tshwane’s 2024 Higher Education Innovation Challenge, will hugely benefit the student community. The challenge aims to engage students in finding creative solutions for service delivery issues in Tshwane. Winners will receive prize money ranging from 30- to 50-thousand-rand. Tshwane deputy mayor, Nasiphi Moya, says the goal is to prepare future entrepreneurs who can solve pressing city challenges, and improve the quality of life in the country.
# And finally: KwaZulu-Natal police have launched its Beanie initiative aimed to keep the vulnerable warm this winter. The initiative, launched by captain Louise le Roux, is for vulnerable children within the Brighton Beach policing precinct. Spokesperson Carmen Rhynes says some beanies have been purchased, but the majority are knitted and crocheted with gifted wool:
