# Van Ryn’s 15-year-old Potstill Brandy has been named the World’s Best Wine Brandy for the second year running at the 2024 World Drinks Awards. This marks the fourth time in five years that Van Ryn’s has claimed this prestigious title. The brandy, matured in French oak barrels, offers a graceful profile with notes of liquorice, toffee, and stone fruit. Master blender Marlene Bester lauds the team’s dedication, inviting enthusiasts to explore their range online or at the Stellenbosch distillery.
# Franschhoek’s La Petite Colombe and Stellenbosch based chef, Callan Austin, were some of the winners at the Luxe Restaurant Awards. The awards are a celebration of South Africa’s finest food, hospitality and lifestyle talent. La Petite Colombe won Restaurant of the Year, while Austin scooped Chief of the Year. Other notable winners are the Culinary Rising Star Award that went to Matt van den Berg, The Table at De Meye in Stellenbosch won Family Restaurant of the Year, and chef James Gaag won the Pioneer Award.
# The public has until Sunday to visit the Pretoria Art Museum for free as part of its 60th anniversary. The museum first opened its doors in 1964 and offers a rich historical account of the City of Tshwane’s art collection that dates to the early 1930s. Mayoral committee member for Community and Social Development Services, Nasiphi Moya, says as a heritage building, the museum houses over two-thousand heritage objects which are between 100 and 300 years old.
# Avengers and Thor star Chris Hemsworth has received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Australian is the two-thousand-781st person to receive a star. Of the six Marvel and Global Avengers franchise films Avengers: Endgame remains among the highest-grossing movies ever. His Avengers co-star Robert Downey Junior described him as insightful, brilliant, and remarkable. Hemsworth says getting the star is a dream:
# And finally: Rock n Roll music legend Bruce Springsteen was inducted into the Fellowship of the Ivor’s Academy during the Ivor Novello Awards in London. He is only the 27th person to receive this honour, joining the likes of Elton John, Joan Armatrading, John Barry, Kate Bush, and Paul McCartney. Springsteen has sold more than 140 million records and won an Oscar, a Tony, and 20 Grammy awards. His famous hits include Born To Run, Thunder Road, Hungry Heart, and Born In The USA.
