# Cape Town Tourism says the city’s coffee scene reflects the vibrant and diverse culture that makes the Mother City so special. The US culinary magazine Food and Wine has named Cape Town on its 2024 list of the top ten cities for coffee. The ranking is determined by votes from over 180 food experts. Cape Town Tourism’s CEO, Enver Duminy, says this recognition is testament to the city’s coffee community’s passion, creativity, and resilience:
# Tshwane University of Technology scholar in Computer Science, doctor Michael Moeti, has been selected for the 2024-’25 Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Programme in the US. The programme is an initiative aimed at enhancing internationalisation efforts at US higher education institutions. Scholars from outside America are invited to collaborate with US colleges and universities for a semester or full academic year. Moeti will be at the Bluegrass Community and Technical College in Kentucky.
# The University of KwaZulu-Natal says women constitute 65.76-percent of all graduates for this year’s autumn graduation, underscoring its commitment to advancing gender equality. A total of seven-thousand-795 students will graduate across 16 ceremonies at the Westville campus sports centre this month. A total of 414 will graduate cum laude, with 69.57-percent being women. The university says it is proud to be one of the most transformed institutions in the country.
# Argentinian soccer legend Diego Maradona’s Golden Ball trophy from the 1986 World Cup will be auctioned off next month. The award, believed to have been stolen, resurfaced in 2016 among other lots that were acquired from a private collection at auction in Paris. Maradona, who died in 2020, won the award after leading Argentina to the World Cup title in Mexico, where he scored five goals in the tournament. This is the first Golden Ball to go for auction.
# And finally, FlySafair is today marking its tenth anniversary with a special sale, offering 50-thousand seats on selected domestic flights for just ten-rand, including airport taxes. The sale, available exclusively on their website, is expected to draw heavy traffic, with over a million visitors anticipated. The airline has implemented an online waiting room to manage the influx. Customers will have a ten-minute window to book their flights once they gain access to the site. The FlySafair app will still be available for regular bookings.
