# The University of Malaya in Malaysia has conferred an honorary doctorate in International Relations to president Cyril Ramaphosa. It says this is in recognition of his outstanding leadership, contributions to international relations, and dedication to global development. He is only the second South African, after the late former president Nelson Mandela, to receive this distinction. Ramaphosa says this honour recognises the struggle of the South African people for democracy and freedom:
# The Eastern Cape government has congratulated the new Miss South Africa, Qhawekazi Mazaleni. The 24-year-old, who was born in Falakahla village in Dutywa and raised in East London, was crowned at a prestigious ceremony held at the SunBet Arena in Menlyn, Pretoria East, on Saturday. Another Eastern Cape beauty, Melissa Nayimuli, is the new Miss Universe SA and will represent the country in Thailand. Provincial government spokesperson, Khuselwa Rantjie, says the two are true ambassadors for the Eastern Cape:
# University of Fort Hare Public Law, senior professor Nomthandazo Ntlama-Makhanya has been recognised as one of South Africa’s most influential women, winning the Mail & Guardian Power of Women Award in the Law and Justice category. The university says this honour is a fitting recognition of Ntlama-Makhanya’s decades of scholarship, mentorship, and service in the legal profession. UFH says now in its 20th year, the awards honour women making remarkable contributions across South Africa in areas such as science, governance, education, health, law, and the arts.
# The City of Cape Town’s Energy Directorate has announced that its Paardevlei 132-kilovolt switching station has received two major accolades. The station won the International Project Management Association Global Project Excellence Awards 2025 Silver Winner and the Project Management Summit and Prestige Awards 2025 project of the year runner up. Mayoral committee member for Energy, Xanthea Limberg says these awards demonstrate excellence in infrastructure delivery and highlights the capabilities of the teams, not only in the Energy Directorate but across the municipality:
# And finally: Japanese animation feature film, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, topped the North American box office on its opening weekend. The film, which is the latest offering from Sony’s Crunchyroll, follows the adventures of Denji, played by Kikunosuke Toya, a teenager and demon hunter. Universal’s Black Phone 2 slid to second with Regretting You opening in third place. Disney’s Bruce Springsteen biographical drama Deliver Me from Nowhere had to settle for fourth place in its debut, with Disney’s sci-fi tentpole Tron: Ares rounding out the top five.
