# Durban photographer Chris Clark has captured global attention after his image of two mirror dinghies battling giant swells was selected among the top 120 finalists in the prestigious Pantaenius Yacht Racing Images competition. The Hillcrest local and member of the Hillcrest Camera Club took the shot during the Marriott Mirror Worlds regatta in April. Once a competitive sailor, he now channels his passion through photography. Public voting closes on 14 November, with the top entries set to be showcased in Amsterdam next month.
# Masslift Africa donated 208-thousand-rand to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital in Johannesburg, reflecting its commitment to uplifting and empowering the next generation. The hospital is one of the only dedicated paediatric facilities in Southern Africa. Masslift Africa’s CEO, Marco Caverni says the hospital is a symbol of hope and compassion, and supporting their incredible work is a privilege. Hospital CEO Nkuli Bokhutso says contributions like these not only sustain operations but also remind the young patients that they are loved, valued, and never forgotten.
# Marriott International joined forces with FoodForward SA to help address one of South Africa’s most pressing challenges, food insecurity. The partnership resulted in over 25 Marriott volunteers from six hotels packing boxes of staple groceries at FFSA facilities in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Each 20-kilogram box feeds a family of four for a month, helping redirect surplus food to those who need it most. Marriott International’s Dorcas Dlamini Mbele says this initiative forms part of their global commitment to sustainability and community impact.
# The George Municipality in the Western Cape is offering free pavement permits to hospitality businesses, providing restaurants with additional floor space to place their tables in preparation for the festive season. The municipality’s spokesperson, Ntobeko Mangqwengqwe, says they aim to boost the hospitality industry by taking advantage of the warmer weather and supporting business recovery by creating a festive atmosphere:
# And finally, the latest Asterix cartoon adventure released yesterday is being published in 19 languages and across 25 countries as it takes the indomitable Gaulish warrior to ancient Portugal. “Asterix in Lusitania” is the 41st instalment in the legendary French comic book series, taking him to the far reaches of the Roman Empire. Accompanied as usual by his trusty sidekicks Obelix and Dogmatix, Asterix is on a mission to save a small-time garum producer accused of poisoning Julius Caesar with his fermented fish sauce, and facing a trip to the lion’s den.
