Good afternoon, here is your Good News:
# Miss Universe SA, 29-year-old model, film, and television producer, Melissa Nayimuli, is set to represent South Africa on the world stage at Miss Universe in Thailand next month. Born in Butterworth in the Eastern Cape to a Xhosa mother and a Ugandan father, Nayimuli first entered the Miss South Africa competition in 2020 but did not win. She returned in 2023, where she made the top five. African Beauty International says Nayimuli will carry a message of hope, unity, inclusivity and transformation in Thailand.
# Community activist, Zolani Zondani, successfully walked nearly 800-kilometres from Gqeberha to Cape Town, to raise awareness on a campaign which focuses on mental health issues affecting men. He called the walk, Broski-The Living Experience, saying it was not just a test of endurance but a mission of purpose. This initiative was also to raise funds to register his non-profit organisation named Broski. Zondani says he wants to create safe spaces for men to express vulnerability and share their struggles.
# Pick’n Pay’s Feed the Nation initiative, born out of the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, has distributed more than 215-million-rand worth of food over the past five years. This has provided over 45 million meals to people and families across South Africa. The initiative has focused on supporting child-headed households and has assisted nearly 600 schools nationwide. Pick’n Pay CEO Sean Summers says with the help of staff, suppliers, partners and customers, they have been able to deliver much-needed relief to vulnerable communities.
