Good afternoon, here is your Good News:
# Grootvadersbosch Conservancy near Heidelberg in the Western Cape has won international recognition at the 2025 Reverse the Red Accelerator Awards in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, for its efforts to save the endangered Tradouw redfin. Found only in the Huis River, the tiny freshwater fish faces threats from invasive species and drought. The conservancy’s project has restored riverbanks, created local jobs, and raised community awareness. The award provides funding and global support for further conservation, including plans to establish safe new habitats for the Tradouw redfin.
# Tshwane University of Technology first-year Environmental Health student, Lennox Mulugo, has built a digital publishing platform designed to empower young African writers. Enigmatic Docs is a one-stop hub for writers, poets and educators, offering services such as editing, formatting, International Standard Book Number registration, ghost writing, proofreading and book cover design. TUT says Mulugo’s work reflects the institution’s vision of producing future-ready graduates who apply their learning to make a real-world impact.
# Emerging young South African actor, Kumkani Pilonti, says the support he has received from his family and school, Klerksdorp Technical High School in North West, has been instrumental in helping him achieve his goals. The 17-year-old’s early experiences in school plays paved the way for his acting career, later demonstrating his talent in the Emmy-nominated 2021 series Reyka. He gained recognition in the German film Thabo and The Rhino Case in 2023. Kumkani says he has become a good inspiration for kids, and that’s both rewarding and fulfilling.
# The University of the Western Cape says it is beaming with pride as two of its students, Sisonke Mfeketho and Diteboho Shabalala, achieved first place in the prestigious Johannesburg Stock Exchange University Investment Challenge. The highly competitive challenge invites university teams to experience the thrill of the financial markets by simulating real-world share trading. University and college participation included seven-thousand-700 students from 110 institutions. UWC says Mfeketho and Shabalala proved that brilliance, boldness, and a hunger for learning can yield golden rewards.
# And finally: Ten musicians have been added to the 26th Latin Grammys performers lineup set to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on 13 November. They include Rauw Alejandro, Kacey Musgraves, Carlos Santana and Elena Rose. This star-studded group joins the previously announced list of performers, including Latin pop icon Gloria Estefan, Colombian rock band Morat, and Mexican acts Carín León and Pepe Aguilar. Bad Bunny leads the nominations with 12, and breakout Argentinian duo Ca7riel and Paco trail behind with ten.
