# South Africa’s top grain producers were honoured for their outstanding yields, innovation, and contribution to national food security, at the Grow for Gold Awards held in Gauteng. Grain SA’s Corné Louw says this year’s awards proved historic, with a surge of new national records across maize, wheat, and soybean categories. He says for wheat, both the Northern and Southern Irrigation categories saw new record yields being set, while six regional maize categories delivered new records. Louw says soybean producers achieved three new records.
# Linden in Johannesburg has made TimeOut’s 39 coolest neighbourhoods in the world 2025 list. TimeOut says the world’s coolest neighbourhoods are places that represent the soul of cities, while maintaining their own unique local character that draws people in to live, work, and play. Linden, ranked 17, has been recognised for its old-school authenticity, quirky boutiques, and charmingly traditional and ultra-cool feel. Jimbōchō in Tokyo, home to 130 second-hand bookstores, tops the list, followed by Borgerhout in Antwerp and São Paulo’s Barra Funda in third.
# The Centre on African Philanthropy and Social Investment, based at the University of the Witwatersrand Business School, has launched the Pan-African Youth Competition. The competition challenges youth-led teams and organisations, ages 18-to-35, to transform the findings of the study titled, Dignified and Fulfilling Work for Africa’s Youth, into creative, accessible, and shareable outputs. Wits says the competition carries a total prize of 2.2-million-rand, with 557-thousand-rand awarded to one winning team from each region of Southern, East, North, and West Africa.
# Durban University of Technology third-year Public Relations and Communications student, Bongiwe Mlambo, has earned a place among the distinguished 2025 Prisms Young Voices. The Prism Young Voices programme exists to accelerate the next generation of PR talent through mentorship, skills development and hands-on judging exposure. The university says 22-year-old Mlambo has been recognised as one of the country’s most promising emerging communicators, set to make a meaningful impact in the field of public relations across Africa.
# And finally: The City of Cape Town has launched the first commercial fully electric boats at the V&A Waterfront, unveiled by City Sightseeing Cape Town. The eco-friendly ride seats 32 passengers. This is ahead of World Tourism Day tomorrow. Mayoral committee member for Economic Growth, James Vos, says by using products such as electric boats, the local industry players are ensuring a smaller carbon footprint, helping the Mother City maintain its standout natural features:
