# MultiChoice has reinstated several of Leon Schuster’s classic films on DStv and Showmax after a five-year ban over racial sensitivity concerns. Movies including Sweet-and-Short, There’s a Zulu on My Stoep, and You Must Be Joking, are back as part of a curated collection. MultiChoice was among many that reviewed their content following the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement in America in 2020. The pay-TV broadcaster says it will continue to review all content to ensure it aligns with set regulations.
# FAME Week Africa, where Africa’s creative industries meet to connect, collaborate, and celebrate, is happening in Cape Town this week. Hollywood actress Sheila Cannon from Shonda Rhimes’ Netflix hit The Residence, is the headline speaker. She is also the co-founder of Abundant Life University, where she is helping aspiring actors, creatives, and leaders claim their voice and purpose. FAME Week Africa will also feature exhibitions, short films, music and fashion.
# Zach Cregger’s mystery horror Weapons starring Julia Garner and Josh Brolin remains top of the North American box office for the fourth weekend. In second place is Steven Spielberg‘s Jaws’ 50th anniversary re-release, while Sony’s Caught Stealing featuring Austin Butler and Zoe Kravitz landed in third. Disney’s comedy Freakier Friday has maintained its fourth place. Searchlight’s The Roses, which follows the story of a seemingly picture-perfect couple, played by Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman, debuted in fifth place.
# Western Cape schools and districts excelled at the National Education Excellence Awards at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg. Hoër Meisieskool Bloemhof won Top Performing Public Ordinary School in Quintile 5 for a second year, with Rhenish Girls’ High and Rustenburg Girls’ High in second and third; Vredendal Noord Primary and Bridgton Secondary for facilities; and Cape Winelands led in Maths, Physical Science, and Accounting. Education MEC David Maynier praised them for excellence:
# And finally: University of the Free State’s Sambulo Maphumulo is set to pursue a new academic path in Europe. The third-year Bachelor of Arts Integrated Organisational Communication student has been awarded the prestigious Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship. The scholarship is a flagship initiative of the Hungarian government in partnership with South Africa’s Department of Higher Education and Training. It provides full financial support for South Africans to study in Hungary. Maphumulo says this achievement represents not only an academic opportunity but also a deeply personal triumph.
