# South African filmmaker and ocean lover, Kabeer Shaik, has teamed up with the National Sea Rescue Institute to create a powerful new awareness video. It shines a spotlight on the NSRI’s Beach Safety Camera Project. Filmed at Strand Beach in Cape Town, the video features actress Shiefaa Hendriks. NSRI’s Andrew Ingram says Shaik donated his time and skills to help amplify the story of technology and teamwork saving lives along the coastline:
# The Hear Me Out national competition has received over 700 submissions in the form of voice notes, poems, letters, videos and artwork, each detailing what it means to be young in South Africa today. Keready, a youth-led movement and part of the Hold My Hand campaign, is running a parallel teen edition of the competition. KereadySA’s Katlego Selikane says the voices of young people reveal a collective call for understanding, safety, and respect:
# For the second consecutive year, Standard Bank has partnered with the South African Future Trust as the official sponsor of the Women in Business Award. The awards celebrate the extraordinary achievements of female entrepreneurs, who demonstrate resilience, innovation, and leadership in driving South Africa’s economic growth. The winner will receive a 500-thousand-rand grand prize geared at accelerating business growth and impact. The prize also includes cutting-edge hardware and essential business resources, and strategic guidance to scale operations.
# Eskom Expo for Young Scientists’ regional science fairs will be hosted in Gauteng, the Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga and the Free State this weekend. Learners will have the opportunity to showcase their innovative ideas, scientific research, and problem-solving skills on a competitive platform. In addition to showcasing their research, young scientists will stand a chance to win a range of prestigious awards, including prizes for the best female project, best innovation project, and best energy project.
# And finally, the highly anticipated biopic of Michael Jackson, titled Michael, will officially be released globally in April next year following delays due to lengthy post-production and extensive reshoots. The film was set to be released in October this year. Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan, the biopic explores the global superstar’s journey to become known worldwide as the King of Pop. Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar, stars as his late uncle, while Colman Domingo and Nia Long portray the parents Joe and Katherine Jackson.
