Good afternoon, here is your Good News:
# Cape Town has once again been recognised as the Best City in the World by readers of the Telegraph in its 2025 Telegraph Travel Awards. With participation from over 20-thousand UK travellers, this latest accolade marks the seventh time Cape Town has earned the prestigious title. Mayoral committee member for Economic Growth, James Vos, says Cape Town has been praised for offering a blend of spectacular landscapes and dynamic city life that few other destinations can match:
# Good rainfall has been falling in the Namaqua National Park in the Northern Cape since March, and low temperatures have been punctuated by periods of sunlight. This has made it possible for early germination, particularly among the daisy species. SANParks says flowers have started to bloom in the Skilpad area, while sections of the four-by-four eco-route, including Wildeperdehoek and Kookfontein, are already bursting with vibrant colours. It adds conditions are favourable for blooming to extend well into August and even through to September this year.
# The inaugural Connie Chiume International Youth Film Festival kicks off in Benoni, Gauteng, during this Mandela Month, honouring the late icon’s legacy through youth empowerment in the arts. Backed by the National Film and Video Foundation, the festival will host over 500 creatives, national premieres of Uprize! and the memorial lecture service, What Did You Dream?. The Connie Chiume 67 Minutes Mentorship Challenge, celebrating transformation, legacy, and real opportunities in South Africa’s creative economy will also take place.
# The Tshwane University of Technology says the prestigious ROTOCON Wine Label Design Competition will receive global recognition. An industry veteran, Labels & Labelling, will feature an article on the competition in their upcoming edition. TUT says this feature will be extensively circulated at Labelexpo Europe 2025, spotlighting not only ROTOCON’s work but also that of emerging designers before a worldwide audience. Third-year student Mufaro Ncube was this year’s competition winner with his design, The Point.
# And finally: Burano in Italy has been ranked as the world’s most colourful destination. Creative studio Berlew conducted some analysis into just how colourful 125 of the world’s top travel destinations are. Every street in Burano is plastered in blue, red, green and yellow, from the walls and window frames to doors and shutters of the buildings. Chefchaouen in Morocco, infused with shades of blue, is ranked second, with Colombia’s vibrant Guatapé in third. Willemstad in Curaçao and Havana in Cuba wrap up the top five.
