# Reigning Miss South Africa, Mia le Roux, says she is committed to offering pathways to dignity, independence and economic participation for those who often face barriers in accessing education and employment. Since the launch of the Mia le Roux Movement x B4i Academy campaign last year, more than 160 learners living with disabilities have been placed in accredited learnerships across the country. Le Roux says inclusion is not charity – it is economic intelligence:
# The University of Pretoria has strengthened its international standing by placing 63rd worldwide in the 2025 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, and securing seventh spot globally for Sustainable Development Goal 17. The rankings measure actions taken by higher education institutions towards achieving the United Nations’ 17 SDGs. This year, only three African universities were ranked in the top 100. Vice-Chancellor and principal Francis Petersen says the rankings reflect the university’s long-standing focus on driving positive societal impact through transformative education, innovation, and research.
# As part of Youth Month, the City of Tshwane hosted a career day for learners from Olievenhoutbosch under the theme, Youth Going to Gemba. This initiative forms part of the metro’s broader commitment to empowering young people with practical exposure to real working environments within government. Mayoral committee member for Corporate and Shared Services, Kholofelo Morodi, says learners got a first-hand experience of the inner workings of municipal governance and service delivery:
# The City of Cape Town says its Youth Literacy and Life Skills Programme has grown steadily since its launch three years ago. In total, a team of 40 job seekers were employed when the programme started, and has supported over three-thousand-500 learners at various schools and two libraries in various communities. Mayoral committee member for Urban Waste Management, Grant Twigg, says through this programme, they are empowering unemployed youth with skills, work experience and formal training.
# And finally: Western Cape MEC for Infrastructure, Tertuis Simmers, says good progress is being made on the 520-million-rand Louis Fourie Road upgrade in Mossel Bay. The largest provincial road investment in the Garden Route District is now 66-percent complete and on track to finish by mid-next year. Key milestones include the opening of new N2 on- and off-ramps and the Gericke Road Link, which have eased traffic congestion. Simmers thanked residents and visitor for their patience:
