# Three Cape Town restaurants have made the World’s 100 Best Restaurants 2025 list. The list, sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, features some of the most esteemed dining spots in the world. La Colombe at the Silvermist Wine Estate, which is making its sixth appearance on the list, is at number 55. FYN at the Cape Town City Centre is ranked 82nd and appears for the fifth time, with Camps Bay’s Salsify at the Roundhouse, a new entry at number 88.
# South African geologist Tebogo Makhubela has been named a National Geographic Explorer and recipient of the 2025 Wayfinder Award. Celebrated for his research at the Cradle of Humankind, Makhubela’s work helps unlock ancient secrets of human origins. Makhubela is part of National Geographic’s Rising Star team, studying Homo naledi and early burial practices. He says that the award is a milestone for African researchers shaping humanity’s shared story.
# The late, renowned South African playwright, doctor Mbongeni Ngema’s play The Zulu opens at the Joburg Theatre tonight. The production led by actors Abdul Khoza and Nhlakanipho Manqele delves deep into the history of the Zulu nation. Rooted in cultural heritage and historical events, the play captures the identity, strength, and enduring resistance of the Zulu people. It is directed by Sibusiso Mamba. The play is part of the inaugural Mbongeni Ngema Festival, which runs until the 22nd of June.
# Oscar nominee and musician Cynthia Erivo says hosting this year’s Tony Awards is a beautiful full-circle moment for her. This is as she won a Tony in 2016 for her portrayal of Celie in The Colour Purple. Among this year’s nominees are Jonathan Groff, Danya Taymor, Kara Young, Justin Peck, and Dede Ayite. The 78th Annual Tony Awards will take place at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday. Erivo says she is excited to showcase the theatre world:
# And finally, Roadrunning: National Police Commissioner, Fannie Masemola, has pledged his full support to the 437 police officers who will be participating in the Comrades Marathon on Sunday. The group includes 66 women and 371 men. More than 80 nations will be represented in the race, a down-run over approximately 89 kilometres from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. Police spokesperson, Nonkululeko Phokane, says SAPS is committed to health and wellness within its ranks:
