# Tshwane University of Technology’s Andile Wiseman Nkalanga has been honoured with the prestigious Chancellor’s Award. This is for outstanding academic achievement in the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology. His journey through the Diploma in Computer Science culminated in 16 distinctions. Nkalanga has admitted that it wasn’t easy, but says his determination to achieve exceptional results kept him going. TUT says Nkalanga embodies the spirit of the university’s mission to empower future-ready leaders who drive innovation and progress.
# The second annual Khuma Film Festival in North West will honour award-winning legendary actor, Moditle “Boikie” Pholo, who is best known for his iconic role as Raitlhwana in the 1980s sitcom Lesilo Rula. With a career spanning more than five decades, Pholo is being recognised for his outstanding contribution to the South African film and television industry. The three-day festival, which gets underway at the Philemon Masinga Sports Complex Hall on Wednesday, promises a dynamic lineup that showcases South Africa’s vibrant storytelling tradition.
# In commemoration of Africa month, the William Humphreys Art Gallery in Kimberley in the Northern Cape is showcasing two powerful exhibitions. Bongi Bengu’s My Cup Runneth Over, and Spirits and Souls by Osan Obert, works curated by the gallery’s Chepape Makgato, emphasise spiritual depth and culture. Speaking to the SABC, Makgato says the two exhibitions are more than just artistic presentations; they are intensely personal expressions of identity, cultural heritage, and inherited wisdom:
# The Humanity Foundation, in collaboration with Rise Against Hunger, have celebrated the packaging and distribution of over 27-thousand meals. The meals were donated to residents in need in Boksburg, Gauteng. The event at Hoërskool Voortrekker exceeded its target of 26-thousand meals, with 97 volunteers helping. The foundation supports Rise Against Hunger’s ECD Connect programme and the Urban Humanity Feed project. It aims to expand the drive to Benoni later this year and encourages more corporate participation in the hunger relief efforts.
# And finally: Disney’s live-action Lilo and Stitch topped the global box office on its opening weekend. The movie is about a chaotic alien who crash-lands in Hawaii and gets adopted by a young girl and her older sister. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, in which Tom Cruise picks up as spy operative Ethan Hunt, opened at number two. The sixth instalment in Warner Brothers and New Line’s long-running horror, Final Destination Bloodlines came in third. Disney and Marvel’s Thunderbolts, and Warner Brothers’ vampire thriller Sinners wrapped up the top five.
